Question 1

Does this product support Windows 8, 8.1, Server 2012 or Server 2012 R2?? The product page says it is Windows 8 compatible, but the Rosewill support page does not even list any drivers above Windows 7.

The driver disk in mine only goes up to Vista: The site has better updated drivers. (I believe that the Vista driver works for 7, nonetheless. 7 basically is enhanced Vista.)

Needing hard system switch-off, I thought later that my onboard nic had had it: I had this for a similar issue--resolved. Just kept it in reserve. It uses the same chipset as my onboard nic.  In that case, one needs to reinstall the driver, anyway--when switching to onboard or card. Loading the driver from Realtek for this resurrected my embedded nic. It now works. (Neither were detected for a time (?).)

Nonetheless, I wanted to see if this works for future needs: Getting past driver issues, Win 7 diagnostics says that my cables are bad--tried many. (Cables works with onboard for Foxconn AM3 880 $50+ board from here). It's likely the RJ-45 connector for the card. It took the card out, examining it's jack--seems nominal--my onboard nic works now, fortunately.

Networking gurus say to use cards: Such users generally wouldn't use a cheapo Realtek-based card, though. Realtek onboard generally works seamlessly for me: It's a fine LAN chipset when it works (when I avoid tinkering). I owned a PCI Intel card--very fine, yet it died. Also have 2 cheapo PCI cards of the AGP days of limit to 10/100. (Rosewill and Zonet.) I try not to fool with 10/100 cards, switches, or CAT 5/5E. Warranty is dead: I'm disappointed at the fabrication failure--the card is condemned to goodwill recycling here.

Driver needs to be input during Win install--not included in OS. Zip file from Realtek contains Win 7 and 8/8.1--also files needed for installing in XP, Vista, 7, 8/ 8.1  . Not really PNP. Linux needs such assistance, too--it's proprietary binary and not included--enable non-free repository and obtain firmware-realtek. Extracted zip folder has Linux files, too.

Realtek LAN chipsets may at times prove difficult for PC or Laptop newbies--and, for many of us who haven't fooled with fixing LAN nic issues for awhile.

Newer motherboards lack multiple PCI slots--they may merely have one these days: What if a user wants to use that slot for an older soundcard, though? (PCI networking "nic" cards prove available still, also.)

This PCI-E card (and others) comes to the rescue. For many, the shorter PCI-EX1 slot isn't used at all. (Some boards have two or more such slots--some longer, two (X4, maybe multiple graphic card slots, too) prove also usable.). Say that you don't need a graphics card adapter: This will work also in the PCI-E slot intended for that, as well.

Motherboards and laptops tend to have an onboard "nic" (network interface card): What if that dies? This card also solves the problem of a dead onboard nic. (Sometimes such nics are damaged by power surges or lightning.) If the card (for desktop PC only for this cheaper model) isn't defective--it saves the day! Laptops are served with their own card-type and interface (PCMCIA, I believe)--these generally prove more expensive.

Some people prefer to use cards to onboard nics, as well--cards serve pro networking needs better than general-purpose onboard nics, too. Sometimes, two nics or more prove necessary, as well--this card may facilitate such purposes. Cheaper  boards limited to 10/100MB/s may be upgraded to gigabit (10/100/1000) with this

Yes, if you have a free PCI-E slot? Also noting that the clearances are VERY tight in there. Drives for Win10 are not were I could find them. But Win8 64bit and 32bit are easy to find. Just update to Win10 when they do come out.

According to rosewill its supports a lot of windows base system. rosewill LAN or network cards use a standard control used in alot of things,its only the driver that make it do extra, i would pose this question on rosewill site, they might give you a better answer

David, As long as you have a pci express slot on the mother board of a dell xps 8300 it will work. Looking at a picture of the motherboard it looks like it has a few of the slots so my guess is you will be fine. I run linux servers and desktops and this card has worked very well for me. Good luck
