Question 1

Does the Amped Wirelell SR300 have to be connected to the modem or router by an ethernet cable or any direct wiring or will it work all wirelessly?

Accepted Answer

The only wired connection is the power cord. You will need to plug it into a computer to set it up the first time, but after that it functions wirelessly. It also has four ethernet ports in the back if you want to plug in another device like a NAS.

will this be able to travel through dense concrete walls ?

Not sure if it will travel through concrete walls without a window or air vent between them. My friend used this to pull wifi at a campground from his dads camper to his and there was a good 200 feet between them. Not many things I know as far as wifi tech that will travel through concrete, considering its mostly radio waves of sorts, you will probably be better to hard wire drill a whole run some wire.

Question 3

I am looking to purchase a network extender to use while camping.  Campground WiFi can be really weak and slow.  By placing this outside my trailer, would it improve the WiFi signal I receive inside the trailer?

It might help but some things to consider:

You'll need the cooperation of the campground owners as the extender needs to be "connected" to their router with their network security key. They may also be using extenders and I'm not familiar with daisy chaining extenders together.

There's also the issue of repeaters causing data transfer to slow down. Mine drops from 25 Gbs from the main router to 12 Gbs through the SR300 extender but that's still a lot better than zero data at extreme ends of the house.

A higher gain antenna on your end might help more. I used a cheap 2.4 GHz external antenna which made a huge difference when we went through our motorhome phase.

Question 4

I currently have one computer in my home but we are adding a second via wifi connection we also have Poor wifi on cell phones in parts if our home.  will this product cover it all or do I need this product and a wireless USB Adaptor for the 2nd computer in that we are putting into our kitchen?

If your second computer does not have Wifi  capability (Almost all Laptops have Wifi) you definitely will need to add a Wireless USB stick to this second computer or some wireless internal module (Like a PCi or PCI-e Module). The SR300 is a/b/g/n frequencies and will not do anything for your cell phone, unless you have some strange cell phone. I am no expert with Cell Phones but I do not think they operate in the a/b/g/n frequency range so I seriously doubt the SR300 will help a Cell Phone. The Range Extender does exactly what it is advertised to do, it extends the Range of the Wifi a/b/g/n signals to the far reaches of your home of office. As far as extending the range I would say it does exactly was it says it does and it works very well. If your looking for a real fast wireless connection for large file transfer or Game Play, my experience is the signal from the SR300 has a smaller bandwidth than the original signal, in other words it is a slower connection, but plenty good for most normal Internet functions. With the SR300 it will extend 2.4 Mhz, 5 Mhz with varying levels of Bandwidth. Mike

Question 5

I went to the manufacture website to see if this product truly was a "repeater" or an "extender".  An extender broadcasts a different SSID while a repeater does not; it transmits the same SSID.

From what I could tell from reading the quick installation guide it suggests to me that it's only an "extender".  However, this doesn't mean that it doesn't have a "repeater" function.

Can someone please confirm that this device can or cannot function as a repeater?

This works only as an extender broadcasting a different SSID. I purchased it hoping for a repeater, but for my purposes using it as a high power wireless bridge, it works fine.

Will this product work with my Netgear N600wireless dual band router? It is model: WNDR3400v2

yes it will work but i'd still recommend that you get the netgear version as they will work together better. I bought it and i use it with that same router at my house and once a week i log into it to refresh the settings so it runs at full speed again. If i did it again i'd buy the netgear EX6200   i did it for the office and love it. it connects easy and stays connected. it also reaches farther than our office wifi router does.

Question 7

My shop is a metal building (walls and ceiling) where it is difficult to receive any WiFi or cell signal. My house, router, and extender are about 100 feet away from this building. I have mounted a outside yagi antenna on this metal building and connected it directly to the shop PC with 40 feet of LMR400 coax and a SMA to USB adapter. Excellent signal strength. How then, do I radiate a signal inside this metal building. Can I detach one of these antennas and connect the coax to it? Will that generate a WiFi signal within the room?

If you have a (relatively new) wifi card on your shop PC, then you should be able to configure it to act as a "hotspot".  If you can do that, then other computers (phones, etc.) can connect to your shop PC over wifi and then share it's internet connection.

If you don't have a wifi card on your shop PC that you can use as a hotspot but you have an ethernet LAN card in your shop PC, then buy an ethernet hub or switch and an "access point".  Hook the access point and your shop PC to the hub/switch.  Then configure your shop PC to share it's internet connection.  Then other wifi clients inside the shop will connect to the new access point and get to the internet through the shop PC.

Question 8

Roughly, in a ideal condition (open field, no interference), what's the range of this extender? Just want a rough estimate.

Marcus, don't know about open field range, but our range extender extended the signal an extra 40 ft. In our house.we pushed the signal from lower basement office to our study room on the ground level. Again, I think we picked up an extra 40 ft. through several walls and a floor.   Norm

anyone using this with apple airport wifi? if so is it easily compatible for non tech person to set up to extend coverage in 2500 square ft apartment with poor coverage in back of unit?? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Don't buy the SR300 extender, the reviews were not good.           
I bought the Amped RTA15 802.11 WI-FI Router 802.11 a/b/g/n AC, and hooked it up to my old Motorola Surfboard cable modem.

Now I have full coverage of 3000 Sq. Ft., streaming netflex movies to two TV's, surf the web on an I-pad, a computer, and a 4G phone (all at the same time).  
To check my coverage I took an I-Pad across the street and still had coverage with both the 2.4GHz and the 5.OGHz Wi-Fi.

I have experienced occasional signal failures caused by my, soon to be retired modem.  Installation is easy with the provided instructions and the websupport from amped.  Be sure to get the extended warranty from Newegg.

Question 10

The root of my question is this: are the detachable antennae receivers or broadcasters? In other words, if I replace the antennae with larger and more powerful ones will I be able to place the repeater a further distance away from the original source of wifi?

If you change the antennas you may be able to modify the unit but you void the warranty.  My unit can extend the signal by 100 feet.  Changing the antennas wont increase that very much.
