does it require CD disk to install driver?

No. I bought this adapter for my Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro ultra-book because it did not come with a Ethernet port because of how thin it is. The ultra-book also does not have a CD/DVD drive of any kind. When I plugged it in initially Windows recognized it and it worked immediately.

Will it work the same and provide the same functionality on a USB 2.0 connection?

It will function on a USB 2.0 connection, but it is not capable of providing full 1 gigabit speeds.

USB 2.0 isn't going to provide better than 280 megabit performance.

With this product if you only have USB 2 what is the maximum speed you can get with usb. Can you still get a 1Gb speed?

No.  Gigabit is a theoretical 128MB per second.  The USB 2.0 port will limit you to a theoretical 60MB per second.  Your computer will show you as having a Gigabit connection but you will not actually get that speed.

I believe your Mac Pro laptop only has USB 2.0 ports; that said, the Belkin device is backwards compatible and will work on USB 2.0 ports.

That said, you may want to make sure it has compatible drivers (software) that works with OSX, as I've only used this device on Windows laptops.

There is also a similar device that has the Ethernet port but also has a few USB ports, in case you need extra USB as well with your laptop.

I have an hp pav. Dv 6700, 64 bit , is this card compatible with this laptop.?

This USB 3.0 "dongle" would work on most if not all windows computers with a USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 port.
However this model computer (HP pavilion dv6700) only has USB 2.0 ports so it would not be able to operate at the full gigabit transfer speed.  You would need a USB 3.0 port to utilize the transfer speed of gigabit Ethernet.
