Will this will allow me to turn off wifi on my daughters' devices?

If you don't want her on it at all, change the password and don't tell her. Other than that, you can go under Advanced Settings ->Wireless and then click the Wireless MAC filter. You'll see a pick list that SHOULD help you identify her devices, or else you will need the full MAC address of each.

Do I need a battery and adapter with this router?

Skip this piece of junk.. invest in a Nest/Google wifi setup... way better than this.   This thing sits in a box collecting dust after switching to Nest.. it just didn't work

Do the antenna's come off so I can use a separate directional yagi on one?

No, you can't take off the antennas from this model, you might want to check the RT-N12D1 with the removable antennas.

What's the range?

I tend to use these Asus Routers in Condo Units, Townhomes and small to medium size homes for basic household coverage.  This model uses a 5dbi antennae where as most of the competition in this range only use a 2dbi antennae.  Never have any issues with these units and very easy to configure through a web browser.  If you are looking for a wider range of coverage then I would go with something like the ASUS RT-N66U or the Asus AC-68U model.  Hope this helps.

Question 5

Buying this to replace a potentially failing Airport Extreme. The one review says limited features. What does that mean? I assume it will do everything the Airport will except Apple specific functionality.

You can use any Wireless Router you choose for your Apple Devices.  I own a much higher end Asus Router for my household, which handles my Windows PC's, all of my Apple Devices, my Apple TV & my ROKU, Amazon TV FireStick.  So this should suffice to handle your basic Wifi needs for you.
