Question 1

I have an asus router right now the RT- AC86U but after moving to our new house the rooms are getting spotty internet connection, would this system work to get the other 2 rooms to be more stable or is there a better option, and can I still use my AC86U Router with this?

Accepted Answer

You can still use your AC86U. However, I set up this combination (AC92U & AC86U)  for a friend with a large house and it did not cover the whole house. A better option might be to purchase a second AC92U and use both AC92U's as a mesh system.

In my friend's house I set up a Netgear WiFi 6 Mesh system, and it covers the whole house with strong signals.

Is this a single router or a pair (
RT-AX92U AX6100)
?  It's not clear from the description.

Question 3

Can I use a wired gigabit link as a backhaul (lan out of primary router to wan in on secondary). If I do will it be faster? Its says up to 4.8 gbs wireless backhaul and a wire backhaul is 1 Gbs. I saw folks talking about loss of performance on 5 Gbs channels on the downstream router, is that because of the wireless bandwidth of the backhaul?

You can set up a wired link as a backhaul.  I don't know if that will improve your performance, however, as that may depend on other factors including the load on the channels and your wifi speed.  We need the mesh for coverage of our home, but are way under capacity in terms of what the system can handle so I would not expect it would change our performance.  We get our full wifi speed all around the house now.  Your mileage may vary.  If your house is already wired, you may prefer using a totally different type of system using access nodes instead, like they do in commercial applications, if you have this concern.  I got the mesh system because I did not want to deal with wires.

Question 4

What kind of speeds do you get to the base when plugged in via Ethernet to the satellite? (wireless backhaul speed)

I do not know how to test the wireless backhaul speed. I do know that when doing an internet speed test from the computer that is connected to the satellite router with ethernet cable it is the same as the speed on the computer that is connected with ethernet to the modem. The specs of the wireless backhaul is a lot faster or higher than my internet speeds.
Also the internet speed test on my laptop on 5 GHz wireless connection in the back bedroom which closest to the satellite router ( 40 ft. from it ) is the same as the other two wired computers.
