Yes, that is the whole point! I have this router and it is probably the best I have ever used including a $250 Cisco small business unit.  If you do not need VPN, get this, software (firmware) design and implementation quality is impeccable, and still pretty easy to use!  If you do need VPN at this and add a separate VPN router. You can connect up to 4 different ISPs and and then just connect a wired switch or wireless router to the LAN port. I have mine configured with 3 WAN: Comcast Cable Modem (20 Mbps), Century Link DSL (10 Mbps)(these two primary with bandwidth added together resulting in 30 Mbps), and then as a backup which only kicks in if the other to fail for any reason pay-as-you-go 4G from Freedom Pop (only $50 for device, no monthly fee until use over 500 MB per month). the key to getting maximum performance with bandwidth from multiple ISPs combined is under Advanced/Load Balance menu.  Uncheck Enable Application Optimized Routing. Then run speedtest

After I hook this router up to my cable modem can I hook up a wireless router to this without having any problems?

Yes, you can hook a wireless router to the TP-LINK TL-R470T+ Load Balance Broadband Router. That's exactly how our office is using the device.

Previously, our DSL modem/router was connected to the wireless router.  I configured that router to act as a wireless access point.

After, the building got cable, I connected the new cable to the TL-R470T+ router. Then, I disconnected the old wireless router/access point from the DSL modem/router and plugged it directly into the TL-R470T+ router.  I did not need to make any changes to the wireless router/access point.

Does this unit have screw head mounting brackets, or at least threaded holes, on the bottom?

No, it does not have mounting holes in the bottom - it sits on little rubber feet only.

This router is 10 times more reliable than the Linksys routers I used to use.

Is this a fanless design?  Is this wired router appropriate for an audio recording studio where silence is required?

This is use for joining 2 to 4 difrence dsl. connection it combines all the signals to 1 output 
Example. York Internet is 20 gigs each the output will be
90 gigs maximum

Does anyone know if I can merge two static IP DSL lines together to load balance within this modem?

Yes. I bought one of these for exactly that purpose. I merged 3 DSL modems, each with static IPs to combine and balance bandwidth for a motel wifi system in an area where 3mbs down was the highest bandwidth available. Now we have a 9 mbs capacity by balancing between 3 DSLs and our entire motel system is on one subnet.

2) how well is the computers compliability ?

Just adds to electric bill but not much, same as a wireless router/access point would. You definitely need more than 1 internet provider but I'm sure you know that.

Works with all computers.

I have only noticed speed gains on upload but not download bit it will use the fastest connection possible.

What is the wan thruput on this? will I be able to get a 20Mbps or greater with a speed test? My current router seems to be limited at just under 10Mbps but when connecting straight to my modem I get 21Mpbs.

I got the revision 2.1 with the latest firmware.  I have 2 WANs connected:
15Mbps down 1 up
3Mbps down 1 up
Most of the time, I get around 9_11Mbps down 1 up, but sometimes I get 18Mbps 2.
I think this firmware has a bug...  
I installed a "syswan" to one of my clients (the model without VPN),  I think it was $150, I know it is a lot more than this one, but I really regret buying this junk! 
I'm not going to buy any thing from TP-link any more.  I just got a RMA for a TL-WDR3600 that on paper looks amazing, but in reality is the worst router I ever tried, even after I installed DD - WRT in it.

This unit is not a "Wireless" Router, you would have to connect (hard wire) wireless Access points to it. As for how many "Wireless Inputs" more accurately "Network Clients" that depends on how you configuration, out of the box it can support 254 clients.

what is the maximun port forwarding rules supported?

I assume you are asking about the "Virtual Server" rules?  I'm not sure what the exact number is, but it is very limited.  Something like 15 or 16 rules max.  I've hit this limit a few times, forcing me to use port ranges (which results in opening ports I don't need opened) when forwarding ports to a single server.

This is the one and only issue I have with the TP-Link Router.  Otherwise this router is the best device on the market in its price range.

Just make sure you apply all the latest firmware updates, especially for the V4.0 model.  The V4.0 model will lock up and crash unless you are running 1.1.0 Build 20150526 Rel.71817s

Looking for a wired router that will work with 1 or 2 gaming consoles (PS3 and XBox) and single PC all running simultaneously on a single ISP (with consistent 30/5 speeds). Will this do the trick?

This router allows the connection of multiple service providers (e.g. cable and DSL).

If you only have one ISP any router will do the trick. If you want to balance the bandwidth between the consoles and the PC, some routers featuring QoS may work, but personally I haven't found any that works as I expect.
