Though this may sound stupid, I was unable to see a disk drive in the photos and in the specs...So my question is:

Does it have a disk drive?

No, it has no disc drive, but for the graphics power and CPU performance you won't find another 14" laptop this powerful for this price.

We love this laptop. If you really need a disc drive, Newegg has some wonderful external drives for around $25. The are compact and work on the USB ports.

Question 2

Are there any cosmetic wear and tear on this particular listing?

I bought one a couple months ago. Since it's a refurbished item each one might be different but the one I bought had no cosmetic damage at all. I've had no problems whatsoever with the laptop so far. I'm very happy with it.

does this come with its own copy of windows 8 on disk?

No it does not, and you also cannot make a restore disk. The computer is fine, but comes with basically nothing else other than the charger and packaging, which I am a bit unhappy about Newegg not making that clear. I want to wipe my OS and be able to restore is, but I cannot do that (unlike with most other laptops), nor will Newegg allow me to return the machine.

I was deciding between this and a refurbished machine on Lenovo's site and I regret going with Newegg. It appears their legendary service doesn't apply to refurbished items.

So how big of a gamble is it to get this and hope that it has been properly refurbished?

Honestly mine wasn't even refurbished or it at least didn't look like it was. I don't think it was used at all. The only problem is you don't get discs with it and it isn't in it's original box. This little laptop is awesome once you upgrade to an ssd (the slow hdd that's in there makes the whole computer seem slow). I have had zero problems with this little machine. I highly recommend the G46VW.

Is the fan on this laptop noticeable? As in if i was going to take a nap and leave my laptop on, would I be able to hear it from about 10 feet away?

At 10 feet is you let the computer idle there is no noise. If you were going to leave a game running that would utilize the processor and GPU heavily then you might hear a slight noise at 10 feet

what kind of damage has it been thorugh?

I don't know for sure what kind of damage the item had, if any. I mean, a refurbished item does not have to be damaged to be sent back to the manufacturer. It could have been faulty from the get-go. It could have had bad internal components, etc. My laptop that I got was basically brand new. It had zero scratches, zero issues, and came with everything I would expect it to. In my personal opinion, factory refurbished items can be better than brand new items in a lot of cases. The reason is that whatever was wrong with that new item, has since been fixed by the manufacturer. Again, there is no specific "damage" that the item has when it is refurbished, it just means that it was not working, the manufacturer fixed it, and it is now working. There are too many things that it could be, and each computer could have been sent back for different reasons, so it would be hard to know why your specific computer you got was sent back. I am thinking about buying this model and was wondering about its physical condition.  What caused this item to be refurbished?

Not sure if this will be true for your's but mine had no cosmetic issues (i.e scratches or dings or anything like that). I'm not really sure why the item was returned and refurbished, although I can say that the one thing I don't like about the laptop is the display. Other than that (and windows 8), it's been running great.

I really want to buy this but there is 1 thing holding me back. Are you able to reformat this with windows 7? Does asus have proper drivers for it?

I remember buying a laptop 2 years ago and tried reformatting it and it was a hassle to get the proper drivers to get it working properly. That was my 1 and only ownership of a laptop but I think I am ready to put the past behind me and give laptops another go..

Soo, can this be reformatted with windows 7?

I bought this with the intention of doing a clean install of windows 7. I hate windows 8 and refuse to use a computer that contains windows 8.

I have been unable to even enter set up using any of the F key on boot. My next step is going to be replacing the hard drive with a copy of 7 already installed.

If you are willing to use windows 8 buy the rig it is plenty fast and the video card is fine. In fact the only criticism is the low resolution.

If you can't live with windows 8, like me, stay away from this machine. The hassles aren't worth it.

What resolution is this laptop? I am interested in getting a gaming laptop that is 1080p. Thanks alot! :D

The Asus G46VW has a screen resolution of 1366x768. If you are looking for a laptop with 1080p, this is not the laptop for you. Other than the screen resolution being alright, the gaming performance on this laptop is actually pretty great. I have had no problems with it!
