I noticed there is not a CD-Drive, How do you play Blu-Ray's or DVD's on this?

You dont play it directly on it... you have to have an external DVD drive.  Several manufacturers make very thin external drives.... All the 'ultrabooks' or most of them save space and weight by eliminating the optical drive.

Can the memory be expanded?  It is at 8 GB.  Is that the max or is it expandable to 16 gb or higher?

The RAM is soldered on the motherboard, then 8GB is the max for this model.  The SSD can be upgraded, with a M.2 NGFF 80 drive, by removing a lot of Torx and Phillips screws on the back, even under the rubber feet.

Question 4

The Windows 10 anniversary update requires a 1 GHz CPU; this is below that (though it has a turbo above that). Will we be able to update to this anniversary update with this laptop?

I don't see why not, CPUs usually are fully throttled down to its lower speed in order to save energy, is not like they are running at full speed all the time, and certainly Windows 10 will not require to be running at 1GHz or more all the time, and when it does, this laptop will snappily put on turbo one of the cores to comply.

Also, I think this should be clarified by Microsoft, not ASUS.

Yes. I loaded Ubuntu 14.04 on the previous model UX305FA. Works perfectly. I plan on doing the same with this model.
