Does this come with Windows 7 CD?

Yes it did.  It was mailed by U.S. Micro, and we had problems with the battery latch mechanism.  They sent me a shipping label on February 28th and I returned it the next day.  Since then, I have heard nothing back regarding either a replacement or refund.  Emails and phone calls have not been returned thus far.

Does this come with either battery, a/c cord or both?

Comes with both a battery and the PSU/Charger. The battery on mine was bad when I got it, but the refurbisher, US Micro, replaced it, no hassle. A plus is that it comes with a fresh install of Windows 7 Pro, minus the HP shovelware.

does this unit have  wi-fi?

The one I bought did have WiFi and Bluetooth.  Newegg can be a little sketchy with providing details on these. I can tell you that mine did NOT have a webcam but for my intended usage I didn't need one.

does this also include the operating system cd?

no. the hard drive has a partition that rebuilds the OS. but no cd.

webcam?  memory card slot?  # USB ports?

Webcam--The HP EliteBook 8440p that I received has a webcam, but I have not figured out how to operate it.  It is listed in Device Manager under "Imaging devices" as "HP Webcam [2 MP Macro]" and states "This device is working properly."  I have not planned on using the webcam, so I have done no research as to how it functions.

Memory card slot--It has an SD Card slot in the front which works as expected.

# of USB Ports--It has 3 USB ports (2.0) on the left side, along with an IEEE 1394 Fire-Wire port. On the right side is an eSATA port, but I can't find the eSATA port in Device Manager.

Des this laptop have an HDMI port?

It has a "Display Port" not an HDMI Port, but it functions as an HDMI Port when you buy a Display Port-to-HDMI cable.  I bought this one (Nippon Labs Model DP-HDMI-25MF 9.84" Display Port to HDMI Cable M-F) and it works great with my HD TV.  You have to fuss with the Sound in Control Panel to get audio through the HDMI cable.

What is the resolution of the display on this laptop?  HP's website shows either 1366x768 or 1600x900 are available.

It can hold up to 32 gig. Mine has 8 gig of gaming memory and works fine.
