As stated in other comments for this item there seems to be a problem with windows 7. Those problems can be ignored though and don't stop the laptop from functioning. If you have a copy to reinstall for this laptop it would be great. The problems are minimal, the speed is average and its a very good school computer.

what is the condition of this laptop? Does it have a lot of sign, scratch of use?

Full of dust as though it was never cleaned and the button feet on the bottom badly warn and one is missing. Some of the function key functions do not work. I am wondering if it was originally an XP machine and the win 7 upgrade which canceled some of those functions. The metal case has a few scratches which is to be expected.  Over all it does what I need it to do.

Refurbished appears to mean a clean hard drive and that it works and nothing more. Kind of an as is condition with minimal  inspection and rehab.

Does it have Web cam and HDMI port?

Mine has a built-in display port, which can be converted to HDMI with a cheap adapter. I am not sure whether the display port on this laptop carries audio or just video, and I do not recall whether the laptop has a web cam.

Did anybody get a usable battery with their laptop??  With a 1 year warranty, you would they they would include a fresh battery.

Yes my battery was as good as I expected.  I work with these on a daily basis and know these 8440's are a reliable model but batteries and hdd's are always a laptops weak points.  Try downloading the HP battery test Program to confirm if good, weak, or bad.  You should expect 3 or more hours of charge from a good battery under normal conditions.  1.5hrs or more under constant heavy cpu loads.

No it dose not have an HDMI output.
It dose however have a "display-port" output.
You could get a a "display-port to HDMI" adapter from NEWEGG.

What is the wireless network ability for this laptop?

WiFi reception is very weak on this one. Exchange it once, the second one had the same issue. OK if you have a strong WiFi signal, if not - do not buy.

can i replace the core i5 with the core i7?? if it is possible how much will be the price??

I think notebook cpu's are soldered to the motherboard, not clamped into a socket as in a desktop pc.  Better to purchase an i7 notebook if that's what you need.   Look at the HP 8540p Elitebook.  It's a larger version (15.6" screen) of the 8440p, has an i7 cpu, and can be bought re-con.
