Is the 32GB storage capable of upgrade, or is it soldered to motherboard?

Hi margo b,

Yes, Intel's Celeron N2840 is a 64-bit processor. The notebook also shipped with a 64-bit version of Windows 8.1.

I also recently installed a 64-bit version of Windows 10 Home. The installation went fine but Windows 10 had problems with the trackpad and keyboard while an external keyboard and mouse worked fine so it's likely a driver issue.

can you play DVD's?

It doesn't have a DVD drive installed but if you have a usb DVD drive it won't be a problem.

The biggest problem I had with this laptop is the small hard drive space.  Windows barely fit on it. 10 GB was used as backup space 20 gb for Windows 8.  Plus the sata connection inside was missing from the motherboard.

I had to install Linux to make it functional .

Does this have a standard SD port? how many USB ports and is there a optical drive?

Hi Zafar,
Have had this unit long enough to understand the pro and cons. Yes, the SD port is standard. It has 2 usb ports on the back; 1 is usb 2.0 and the other is true usb 3.0.  There is no optical drive built in and there's no room for one.  You can get a usb 3.0 external drive for around $30 which I did.  You can also attach an external usb 3.0 storage unit which works very nicely.

Two of the biggest draw backs are the number of usb ports and the internal storage of 32GB.  Unless you love the track pad's, which I don't and you use a usb mouse, your left with only the one other usb port. I solved this by getting a bluetooth mouse which does work well on this notebook.

The other drawback is not solvable.  The 32GB is a major draw back unless you can live with the minimum of apps and use it for primarily for email; internet and note taking.  Don't try to use it for storing or editing photos, you'll be out of storage in no time at all.

Since I upgrade and  build my own computer''s, I did upgrade the memory to 8GB which is the max this unit will allow.  That's when I also discovered there is no connector for an SSD drive even if you wanted to add one.

does this computer have a disk drive, dont see it in the specs?

No this model does not have an upgradeable hard disk it has a fixed 32GB eMMC drive has minimal extra space after windows is installed and needs constant disk clean ups after windows update runs I would recommend Acer Aspire ES1-111-C1MX they are exactly the same only this one has a 500gb HDD.

Can you upgrade the RAM?

I checked in some websites and they make reference to a maximum of 8gb.  In fact thats why I decided for this laptop.  I have not upgraded yet, but you'll have to take off the whole back cover for doing it, as there's no specific little cover to get directly to the memory slot,  so maybe its not that easy for non-skilled IT people.

I hate Windows 8. If I buy this, will I have downgrade rights?

I believe you'd have to provide your own copy of Windows 7, but it's free to upgrade to Windows 10.  Provided you can fit the Windows 10 download with the limited amount of hard drive space.  You might have to get creative.
