What powers the fan?

The fan is powered off a USB port. The plug on the fan is suppose to be a pass-thru type plug where you plug it into your USB port but you can also plug something in so it doesn't actually occupy the port. My unit's pass though feature does not work. But the fan itself performs as it should.

does the fans pull air or push and if they pull can you turn the fan around to push air?

The fan pulls airs from beneath the unit, and from from the sides (since it is fairly tall), then pushes the air upwards to aid the potential airflow and cooling power for your laptop.

A few things to be aware of: It works fairly well so long as its intakes aren't smothered by being set on something too soft, like blankets or tall carpet. And while you could theoretically turn the fan around to push the air downward, the only realistic method to do so would be to bend part of the upper metal grille to open the unit, which would be a pretty delicate operation.

Despite many positive reviews, I have found the unit to be quite loud, or at least not much quieter than other, cheaper fans; funny since I use a lot of smaller Cooler Master case fans in my desktop builds, and they are nearly silent.

Does the top surface of the cooler have and rubber or other material to keep the laptop form slipping or sliding around?

No, its a metal screen.  Your laptop should have anti-slip pads on it, if not, they are cheap enough to buy/find.

What is the exact weight?

If you visit the mfg. website it is listed at 1.54 lbs.  I have no way to measure this to confirm.  It is light.  I bought it to cool my router.  It's been running 24 / 7 for about 6 months.  No problem.  I have another on a laptop for well over a year.

will this item fit my HP  lap top?

Should work just fine but really depends on the HP laptop model, if its a 17" screen model this pad might be a bit small. Any 15" laptop or smaller will be fine. Also laptop weight isn't and issue because this pad is pretty sturdy.

I'm using it with a MacBook Pro 15" the pad is almost the exact same size. Works great, keeps it nice n cool and it isn't loud!

I just got this product, and it's my first experience with cooling pads. Is the vibration on the laptop caused by the fan normal?

Shouldn't be. Mine runs cool and quiet, unless something gets into the fan, then it gets noisy as expected.

Is your notebook sitting completely flat on the pad?

Does the cooling pad vibrate when running, without the notebook sitting on it?

I would check the battery, doors and drives on the notebook to see if they are lose. secure as necessary.

Do you have access to another notebook to test on this pad? Borrow one from a friend or family, see where this troubleshooting leads you.

How thick (TOP to BOTTOM) is this Unit without the angle feet out?

It is 1/2 inch to 1 1/2 inches. My husband and I each have one and we love it. We would recommend it to anyone.

does it  fit a 17.3 inch laptop? what are the dementions?

I own an Acer Laptop that's at 17.3 inches, and I can tell you that while it barely fits, it definitely does the job. It is roughly 14 x 7 Inches. The most important part of getting it to fit would be making sure the stands underneath your laptop fit those dimensions.

Does the fan have an on/off button? Or how does it know when to have the fan turned on or off? Thanks.

This device does not have an on/off switch.  It obtains power from a USB port on you computer.  It also has a "pass-through" USB connector so that you don't lose a port by plugging it into your computer.  As long as there is power to the computer, the fan runs.  One of the best cooling platforms I've ever seen with its massive fan.  Great product!

i was wondering if this unit will fix my laptop or not?, my laptop is 10" x 15", i read the comment on this product and it said it will not fit for 17" laptop, is that true? what is the largest size on you cooler

It has been working like a charm with either of my 17" laptops.
I use the Cooler Master cooling pad because it easily fits in my computer bag for travel.
Well worth the money. It keeps any laptop cool.
