How many are there, just 2?

There are 2 clear and 2 blue lenses per package with only (2) metal replacement bars. So if you have 4 sticks of RAM, you will need 2 packages to have them all match. So, each pack has 4 lenses and 2 metal bars.

Question 2

Do I even need this if I don't plan to use the provided colors? I plan to buy green light bars from a custom shop and wondered if I even need to buy this at all, or is it because stock Dominator Platinum ram doesn't come with any light bar slits?

Well the slits are not built into the existing RAM.  So you are correct in that statement  so you  will still need the metal portion of this kit so you can put in your custom green light bars into them instead of the blue/clear ones provided in the kit.

How do the lightbars get their power? If it's through the RAM do I need to be concerned about a voltage increase?

The answer is NO, the ram dominator platinums have built in lights regardless without the lightbars. And it does not concern whatsoever with voltage it's merely aesthetics. You can turn of the ram lights if your not interested in it's aesthetics and it does not use additional power. (Via turn of corsalink if u cannot the connector) Other than that the lightbars are just lenses for the light to pass thru.

Idk if there is a size difference between the ddr3/4 so I can't say... Imo the stock bars look better as these don't really light up that much also Mine have a textured metal finish so they're not smooth/polished like the orginals.

Instead of the ambient light that comes stock, it is allowed to shine through with this modification by installing the bar with either the clear or blue snap in plastic see through screens.
