I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THAT MUCH WEIGHT HANGING ON THE MOTHERBOARD? should I be worried?

no, the weight really isn't a factor at all. it's fairly light and has 4 very strong anchors. I'm using a Corsair mid-tower case, which has enough room for this cooler plus a fan attached to it.  I would definitely recommend this cooler as long as you have the space for it. even though it is a fanless cooler, I still feel adding a fan to it really helps. but the weight, even with a fan, really doesn't put much pressure on the board.

I am considering this for a high performance build. Has anyone used this on their 8 core amd proc? Would this keep it properly cool?

For comparison, I use an intel i5 4670k (4 cores) up to 3 GHz. Originally I had it with the heat sink a few inches from a rear 140mm fan in a relatively uncluttered case. Under full extended load (running 4 threads of Folding at Home) the CPU reached the low 80 C temperatures. After mounting a 120mm low speed fan directly on the heat sink, an extended CPU load resulted in 40 C to low 50 C temperatures depending on the rest of the case ventilation status. If noise is your concern, I'll add that in my setup mounting a slow fan on this was virtually undetectable noise on top to the other couple fans. Compare your CPU TDP with that of the one I'm using and you'll probably be able to extrapolate a temperature difference.
