The wires must be color-coded, so which two of the three are the 12V power wires? I see lots of reviews noting there is confusion but no one suggests the solution in their review...

The one I bought 2 years ago or so was installed in a Point Of Sale PC at my work, so I don't have it available to look at. However, In all the years I've been building PC's I have yet to see any modern 3 or 4 pin fan stray from the standard pin layout. The pictures of this item all show black wires, so I'll try to describe the layout by perspective instead of color.
If you were to hold the fan's 3 or 4 pin connector pointed away from you as if ready to plug it into a header, and if the 2 notches on the plug are facing down or towards you, the pins should be like this from left to right:

1. negative (usually black)
2. positive (usually red)
3. RPM sensor wire (usually white)
4. PMW signal wire (idk if theres a usual color)
