Question 1

Hi, I am interested in buying some computer fans and I was wondering how to tell which fans are intake vs outtake (exhaust)?

Hi Daryl,

All fans by Cougar can be either intake or outtake depending on the direction in which they are mounted.  I have several of these fans on my case performing both roles.  To test the directionality of the air flow, simply plug in the fan's power cable to its appropriate slot on the motherboard (prior to mounting) and turn the computer on.  Doing so will indicate what side of the unit to mount to what area of the case you wish to ventilate.

Are the LEDs on these fans controllable separately from the fans?  That is, can the fans run without the LEDs being on?

It just has the little four pin power connector, so I assume not. Your motherboard might have a dimmer switch for a fan set, which would lower the light, but it would also lower fan speed : /

not entirely sure on my answer, but thats my best guess off the top of my head.

I purchased two of these fans on December 24, 2014. I used one to replace my heatsink fan and the other the case fan on the back. The fans have been running none stop since then. I have had no issues with sound or temp. My motherboard does allow me to adjust fan speed so I'm sure this helps with longevity and sound. The next time I buy fans I will definitely be looking to this company and style of fan.

do i have to have a watercooling setup or can i just have these as fans?

These are case fans. They can be used in conjunction with a radiator but it definitely isn't required. I have two in my case, one as a front intake, and the second in rear exhaust.

Question 5

I have a Corsair H100i and want to replace the stock fans. the CFM on these is greater than the CFM on the Corsair SP120's which was the other one I was considering. I have 3 of the cougars already installed in the other case fan slots and love the LED look but will they perform well on the radiator pushing?

I like these fans a lot.  I have 2 of them configured in a push/pull configuration on a Cooler Master 212 CPU heat sink.  They keep my CPU very cool.  I don't have them connected to a H100i but I don't see any reason these fans wouldn't work well for pushing on a radiator.

Can this fan be run without the lighting, as well as with?  (i.e. can I turn off the light at night and suchlike?)

To tell you the true I never use since I bought it 
It an emergency in case one died 
could it be turn off ,and on no if you have your case with a switch on yes  on and off if not you have to install a switch that does that

I am finding it impossible to tell which way the air flows - I thought the fan exhaust was on the side with the bracket/sticker, but after mounting all six in my case I fee like just as much air is blowing from the open side of the fans!  Can anybody confirm which side is the intake and which is the exhaust on these?  I would greatly appreciate it.

The fan blades have two sides: one is smooth, the other has raised lines.  The smooth side is the direction of air flow.  So for example, if you wanted the fan blowing air OUT of your case, you would want the raised lines facing the inside of the case.  Also, on one of the four sides of the fan's black plastic frame is an arrow showing the direction that the blades rotate.  This will also show you which way the air flows.
