Can the info scanned be dumped into Excel file ?

You would need some kind of OCR to do this. Scanners, in general, just produce images (.png, .jpeg, images in .pdf, or whatever). Some of the bundled software might attempt to do OCR, but I've not tried it.

What operating system is supported?

I can't answer the question in general, but right now I'm using it on Mac OS X 10.10.2 (Yosemite). I started using it on 10.9. It works just as well on both OS's.

I have encountered a few small glitches. Pushing the button is supposed to bring up the controlling app, but sometimes it doesn't; but it's easy then to just open the app from Applications. Pushing the button a second time is supposed to put the device into a mode where it starts scanning when you feed the paper, but it doesn't always. But then it's easy to just start the scan from the app.

I keep it plugged in for weeks without a reboot and without using it. If I used it every day, or was careful to shut down the app between uses, maybe these things wouldn't happen.

For me, these are minor annoyances. Overall, I've been very happy with the scanner. If I were to do it all over again I would still buy it.

Question 3

Does the software allow the image to be saved as a jpeg?

The Epson software does not allow items to be scanned to anything other than PDF. However, if an application uses the drivers to scan and is configured to save to .jpg then it works. I don't think I've seen this outside of a custom developed application. Windows 7 native tools can scan to other file types. Given the return policy, you can't go wrong with this.
