I wonder wheather there is active cooler, and what loudness it makes?

Sorry for the delay in answering your question.  Life got busy.
It has an active cooler.  the fan is quite large (larger than one in a lap top).  In terms of sound, when the machine is under a light load, I really cannot hear it at all.  When its working hard, it sounds no louder than my laptop at work, which is in a docking station about 2 feet away from me.   Ia 6 feet distance I cannot hear it at all.  I hope this helps.

What is it good for?

I use mine mainly for streaming video from my Core i7 9TB movie server. I outfitted the Zotac with 4GB RAM and a 240GB Solid State Drive, my first SSD. It boots in less than 15 seconds and handles all routine tasks with little or no perceptible delay as compared with my Core i7 8GB RAM machine.  As with other SFF PCs around the house, the Zotac fits nicely behind my bedroom HDTV.

I'll be happy with Win 7 or Linux. Any feedback on Win 7 usage?

I does not include an OS as there is no HDD included with this product. It can, however, have Windows 8.1 or Windows 7 installed on it.

What Intel CPUs is this capable of upgrading to?

This is a complete, self-contained unit that is supposed to be used as is.  If not soldered on, upgrading might require you to upgrade the power supply, and otherwise negates the purpose of purchasing this as a cost-effective device.

Will this product support windows 7 OS?

Works with Windows 7/8/8.1 without issue. Can boot from a USB Flash drive to install the OS. I had USB 3.0 and Broadcast TV Guide support issues with the Windows 10 Technical Preview but that's a preview - not even Beta so issues are to be expected.

This is a bare bones unit and does not come with a hard drive. It includes (pre-assembled) motherboard, cpu, power supply and case. User must provide their own ram, hdd/ssd, & OS. Installation is pretty straight forward.

Does it come with ram and memory installed or do you have buy them for it?

You need to add your own memory. I recommend buying system pulled memory from resellers for half the price of new memory. See my review for the memory brand/model to look for which works great.

Can it boot from an SD card (i.e., containing OpenELEC)?

This device does not support booting from the built in SD card slot. Perhaps a future BIOS release will support it.

No mSATA or eSATA connectors on the Non-Windows included version. But you do get an internal SATA and 4 USB 3.0 and 2 USB 2.0 ports for expansion.

What solid state drives can this unit use and do they install in the case?

Standard 2.5 inch Solid State drives. They pop into place like the RAM which is laptop size. Make sure you get the proper RAM voltage too or you will get errors.
