IBM's cell processor and a co-developed Nvidia graphics processor combine to perform over two trillion calculations per second for immersive gaming environments and instantaneous on-screen response. The revolutionary Sixaxis controller takes game input beyond button mashing by sensing the movement of the entire controller. Changes in position and angle can be used to control movements on screen in games that support the technology.




The PS3 includes Bluetooth 2.0 and Wi-Fi technology to connect controllers and other peripherals wirelessly. The console can also connect both to the internet and to Sony's online community, the PlayStation Network where players can compete against opponents from around the world. Players can also connect their PlayStation Portable for more expanded game play with both systems. The Blu-Ray media drive built into each PS3 is the new default standard for high definition video and will play movie discs in that format as well as supporting CD-ROM, CD-RW, DVD, DVD-R, DVD+R and DVD-ROM formats.
