i feel stupid. how do you know what its compatible with..i have xbox one. i own this. now i need a wheel and i want pedals but i also want a clutch?

This works for Xbox One but must be plugged directly into the wheel.  I own a thrustmaster tx racing wheel with stock pedals(no clutch). I tried to find the stand alone wheel but couldn't, had to buy the packaged deal.  They make a set of petals for the thrustmaster tx that has a clutch.  I have also heard the T500RS pedals will work for the thrusmaster tx wheel.  I have used it on PC also but it be plugged in directly into the PC with the adapter cord.  Basically the shifter will work on all the consoles listed but the problem is the wheel's will not work for both Xbox and PSX. You can also connect it to the computer and change the distance of when you enter and exit the gate.
The manual does a great job of explaining everything.

Will this work with g29?

On PC: works with all racing wheels on the market; 
On PS3 and PS4: works with the T500RS, Ferrari F1 Wheel Integral T500, and T300RS;

is this a usb cable if does it come with adapter?

It has the option to run a USB or using the Thrustmaster propitiatory plug to connect it to a Thrustmaster wheel. It's an easy switch.

Not on consoles.  It will on PC by using the USB adapter that it comes with.

If you're referring to "VGTH8AAOFS" the VG is part of Thrustmaster's name, the AOFS is mysterious, but probably "Add-On *** Shifter."  There appears to be only one TH8A, so it doesn't really matter.

do you need the clutch attachment to use this or can you just use it by it self?

no you don't need a clutch, although that adds another dimension of realism (but very difficult realism)...At times,  I use mine with a older Thrustmaster T80 wheel, which has 2 pedals. it connects via 2nd usb port. works great... I highly recommend it for added fun to sim racing.

Do you need to get this to reverse and also is this a gearshifter to?

This is an optional gear shifter.  Your thrustmaster wheel will have paddle shifters that can up-shift, down-shift, and go into reverse.  This manual shifter has 7 forward gears and 1 reverse gear.
