Is the display back lighted for night viewing?

Yes, but for only 15 seconds after your 1st turn it on. You have to press a switch with a "light bulb logo" below the push-to-talk switch to turn it on again. It remains on for 14 seconds. If you push additional control buttons it remains on during those operations and then turns off about 12 seconds after the last push of a button. You have to push the "light" button again to get the back-light on again. It is green and appears to be from two leds in the left side of the display. It is fairly well evenly illuminated so you can see the lcd display clearly.
