Engineer Isaac Clarke is sent out into space to repair the communications array on the USG Ishimura, a mining ship that has lost contact with Earth. However, it's clear from the moment he sets foot on board, that this is not a simple repair mission. Forced to fight for survival against the hideously deformed crew of the ship, Isaac's only weapons are modified mining tools such as plasma welders or cutters.
The necromorphs are cunning and will use team tactics to swarm or flank, play possum among the dead until your back is turned, or hurl projectiles from afar. And, each monster requires different tactics to defeat with simple headshots not being enough to even slow them down. As you fight for survival, you must also accomplish missions in order to escape. No sooner have you restarted the Ishimura's engines to pull it out of its planet-ward death spiral, but you have to reactivate the defense grid against external threats.
And, all the while, the slavering hordes attempt to make your stay onboard a permanent one. Instead of a typical HUD, you can check on Clarke's status with visual cues. Upgrade your equipment with salvaged items as you fight your way from deck to nightmarish deck. As you watch a dismembered corpse drift away from you in zero-gravity, you'll be wondering from which direction the next attack will come.
