This headset should work directly plugged into the XBOX One controller correct? Without an adapter?

Yes, as long as it's not the first-gen Xbox One controller. I have an Xbox One S and it directly plugs in--no peripherals or batteries needed.

Is this on the ear or over the ear headset?

Over the ear style (think dj type).

Is this compatible with a PC, and does it use USB?

You will need a Y adapter to separate out the Mic and Speaker for PC use as computers have separate jacks for Mic and Audio out. This DOES NOT come with such an adapter/splitter although they are available on-line at additional cost.

Did anyone who purchase this get it with a splitter?

I did not get it with a splitter, but have used it through a gaming chair that then used a splitter to attach to the stereo. Had no issues with signal quality or mic use.
