Since it uses both USB ports, does it expose a USB port to connect an additional device? Or do you have to remove it to connect other devices?

Nope, I ended up up giving up this charger so I could use the Sony headsets. I really liked the setup for my dual controllers. A good improvement for this product would be have a pass through USB port. I was surprised that I needed to use a USB transceiver with the Sony branded gold headset in the first place. This product and the PS4 itself could use a few tweaks.

Will this work with the new slim body?

I don't think it will.  The recess to fit the system is perfectly set for a regular PS4, so it might be unstable as a stand for the PS4 slim.

Does the PS4 have to be on in order for the controllers to charge?

No, controllers can charge while the unit is in standby (rest) mode. Thanks.
