Just received the Amp. and love it so far.  I am able to play iTunes on the Amp. from iphone and ipad. I do not know about the PC as they are not Bluetooth equipped but if it were I see no reason it would not work.

Only issue with Amp so far is that some of my older equipment that is not hdmi interface may require a link up with my old amp to use that equipment like my Laser Disc Player.  I do not know how that is going to work out yet?

Does this support multi zones?

You can listen to music in two different zones if you have another piece of equipment connected to this receiver. You must have another receiver connected to the Sony STRDN1040 as a slave, then you can listen to music in two different zones and control the music through the STRDN1040 remote. Yeah, I know, kind of weird.

Does anyone know an exact link to where to download the manual?????? Ive looked on the sony site, SONY STRDN1040 7.2-Channel AV Receiver doesn't seem to exist on there page. Although they have STRDN1050, STRDN1060 and STRDN1070.

what is the usb for? ive tried a couple different usb drives with .mp3 music files on them and the receiver says "no support".

mp4 is a video file and does not work either, from a usb drive anyway.

Does the 1040 require a powered sub or non-powered sub or can it use either?

The Sony STRDN1040 7.2-channel AV Rcvr. requires powered subwoofers if you want to use them in your setup. The receiver is only 165 watts per channel with 1 channel driven on the 7 main surround channels only. Go to the features section to read about it.

Can I use this receiver in a 5.1 setup until I can afford to add more speakers later?

Yes, I am using it with a 5.0 setup (without a sub-woofer) because I have speakers with 10 inch woofers. You can set it up to work with any speaker layout.

does this have a phono input?

There are no phonograph jacks or more important no amplifier. You would need a phonograph that had a built-in amplifier and use the SACD/CD input. You could possibly use a USB phonograph although I haven't tried this yet.

What speakers are you guys using with this receiver?

Sony ED's they are a set with a powered subwoofer I don't thing they make them any more.

They are a very small footprint speaker I have the front two on stands and the others are hanging from the wall.

Any good 8 or 4 ohm speaker will work well with the receiver.

I need a system wherein I can take all the music on my ipod and be able to play it using some kind of device as a remote that gives me info on song that is playing now and all the other ones I have to choose from.  I assume I can just connectd the ipod wifi and sit there and use it to  both choose and inform me. But the display on an ipod is smaller than is optimal. Tell what a tablet is. Is it like an ipod but just has a bigger screen? I gather I could also use an iphone in this capacity, but I 'do prefer to have a dedicated remote that stays with the system. I assume for me it would be best to have all my music stored IN the player as well as on the ipod.  I am currently connecting my ipod to an inexpensive RCA "internet player.'  It has a large screen for displaying things. It has a remote with buttons but no display. It however probably has the ability play the ipod wifi.  I  have a lot of jazz cds and albums and I'd like the remote to give me that sort of info. Anyway, it just sits there and plays great jazz all day and I can walk over and look at the display if I want to see who's playing and album name. I wish it would give me names all personnel playing..    Nother qauestion. And then a question. I can take my cds and put them in my laptops diskdrive and it will be added to my itunes collection/ I have a 300 CD carousel player. I would like to connect this to my computer and do the same, but I don't know how to provide for the gaps when it changes to  the next CD. Will itunes just automaticallly stop at the end of one CD and then when the next starts to play automatically grab the information off it and start recording automatically, ad infinitim/.  If not, what can I connect to this changer that WILL do that, and then be copied on my computer or plugged into a pllayer or receiver. The one above appears to have a screen/
