any problems with overheating? i got a good deal on mine and want to make sure its not something thats going to melt in a year for the price i paid

I have had mine since around November 2013 and it has never had any heat issue. On power-up the fans come on full speed and that is a bit loud but during heavy use they run whisper quiet and I have no issue. I imagine they could ramp up if heat was an issue.

I want to hook up 1 monitors to this desktop, is this possible with this desktop?

Yes. The desktop has two hdmi outputs and a DVI output. You shouldn't have any problem hooking the PC up to a monitor. I even use mine with a VGA adapter to hook up to a DLP projector and it works fine.
