Question 1

What's the difference between the 4813 and 4812 configs, besides price? The specs look the same.

Accepted Answer

Hi,

The only difference I see is as follows;

The Dell XPS 8700 (X8700-4813BLK) is made for Gaming & Entertainment and the Dell XPS 8700-(4812BLK is made for Student/Home/Office.

The Dell (X8700-4813BLK) comes with Windows 8.0 downgrade And the X(8700-4812BLK) dose not.

This is the only difference I've notice.

Question 2

So, will it have Win 7 loaded or Win 8? This is a huge driving factor for me as I view Win 8 as a barrier to productivity.
There are a few of us asking the same question and no one is replying.
Hello, Newegg???

Accepted Answer

Mine came loaded with Windows 7 Professional.
Also, I paid a few dollars more than the current listed price. I will be loading ACAD C3D tomorrow so I will see how goes.

Question 3

How many watts does the PSU have? I'm looking to upgrade some of the specs in the future and I want to know just how compatible it is.

Accepted Answer

Has a 460 Watt Power supply, should be adequate unless going with higher end vid card(s).I've added a 256 g SSD,and blu-ray burner, fast machine,no problems so far, does everything I've thrown at it flawlessly so far.

Question 4

Need windows 7 only, at start up is that first choice? How does that work

Accepted Answer

This machine comes with Windows 7 already installed. There is a Windows 8 disk included as part of the package.

Question 5

What ports does the display card have? I have seen different spexs listed different places and suspect the card is made with custom ports for some units. If you actually have the card, could you confirm ehat it has. Please do not send a link to soecs, as I have already found different ones different places.
Also is a dvi to vga adapter included?

Accepted Answer

I had to pick up a dvi to vga adapter for it to work. There's two VGA outs, and a HDMI out as well. I'm going to be adding a nice SSD to it soon. However, it's pretty quick out of the box.
