why is my EW7507EB making a popping noise while in use?

Know that over the last 15 years I purchased 4 of these radiators and until my recent purchased in October 2014 none ever cracked. If you read at the instructions there is separate addendum mentioning the fact that cracking noises may occur when the heater is new. They never say anything about cracking going away as it ages, and to date my unit still cracks.

Before I go any further will give you a little background on my basic skill sets relating to this issue. I am a retired Computer IT Consultant of 30 years in my own business, and for 18 years previous I was an “ASE Certified” Auto Technician (Auto Mechanic). During those 18 “auto-repair years” I owned and operated a very successful/busy auto repair shop. I, therefore, have an excellent understanding of our mechanical world which includes, heating, air conditioning, welding, metallurgy, electrical, etc, etc.

The fact that this cracking noise is new to what has been a trouble-free product tells me that Delonghi probably made cost cutting assembly decisions. Their radiators appear to be manufactured by folding/stamping/pressing different layers of sheet metal under high pressure. If this process has a weak spot or the metal itself is too thin this could easily result in cracking noises when its heating up or cooling down. Considering the “addendum Delonghi probably realized this issue after the fact, and they probably manufactured thousands of these units before discovery. So, not wanting to scrap them they added an “addendum” to the reading material saying what it is, but not really talking any responsibility for the issue.

My concern was the cracking might cause a dangerous oil leak. I took some time & did a little research by fishing through hundreds of end user reviews (nationally). My conclusion is the cracking issue is probably benign. If cracking caused an oil leak this would have prevailed throughout the end user reviews and I found only one. I’m out space,, hope this answers your question?
