What is the heat source and how is the heat conducted from the heater to the room?

Hi Mal M,

This is a radiant heat source.  The front panel is a large area heat source.  There are also vents on the top and heat flows from there as well.

There are no fans, and it is totally quiet during operation.  The only exception is when it cycles on and off, when there is a quiet click.

I am using in in my office to keep cozy while it is cold out.  We maintain our house at below 60 degrees.  This heater brings my office into the mid seventies while I have a fan in the window to circulate air out.

With it being a radiant heater, it takes a little while to heat the room.  I turn it on a few minutes before I go in to work.  Shortly after, the room is acceptably warm.  In a closed room, it works even better.  My wife uses it to watch TV and keeps the door closed.  It becomes remarkably cozy.

can you use a timer with this unit?

no , but it has a thermostat and it will turn off/on automatically when preset temperature is reached. If you want this on a timer, just buy a timer controlled power outlet and plug the unit into it. Question 3

What size room will this heat. Would this be suitable for a 400-500 sq ft room?

Perhaps.  If there is not much loss or leakage from the room it would be better since you would not have to run it on higher settings.  When I use equipment like this I do not push it to its extremes since this will "burn out" the electronics much more quickly than reasoned use.  All in all its been a good buy for me.

Alternately, you could use a higher setting to get the unit warm, then turn it down a bit.  My feeling is that if you take care of it, it will take care of you.  Good luck.

Where are the Soleus parts and heaters manufactured and assembled?
