Does this item hum?

This is my second one. It was a gift to my grandson. The unit makes no sounds of any kind until power surges occur. There is a brief ringing like a very loud "chung". 
I live in a rural area of the south and the line regulation in the many electrical storms we have is not all that great. No piece of equipment that has been connected to this conditioner has ever been damaged by any power surge or transient. That is after some 15 to 20 years of use.
When the sound does come from the conditioner in a storm it is a good idea to shut the computer down and wait for the storm to pass.

Will this clean the power of a non inverter generator?

Accepted Answer

It will eliminate all inverter spikes and round off the tendency of square wave corners. Your equipment will think they are on power company ac. I run a tractor powered generator on those power outages here in North Georgia and it all but eliminates all the switching spikes.

My power inverter (converts 12VDC battery power into 1800W 110VAC) outputs a 'modified wave'. Will this unit accept that 'modified wave' and output a wave that's closer to a pure sine?

I do not think this unit will modified the sine wave of incoming power.It's keeps the voltage at a standard 120 volts.I use mine when I'm using a generator to power up my computer and other electronic devices.I would contact the people who make this line conditioner.
