What software does it come with? I want to be able to burn a DVD that will play in a player.

Yes, you can burn a DVD that will play in a Bluray Player, but you will likely need additional software to burn images, movies, etc. in the bluray format.
(I use Cyberlink Power DVD 2013, and DVD Clone 2013.) The LG Burner is an excellent piece of equipment and I highly recommend it for your computer system.

will this burner work with windows XP and or windows 7 desk top computers?

Currently have the drive working with Windows Vista on a desktop.  Imagine Windows 7 would be fine.  Do not know about xp.

Is anyone using this with Windows 10?

I currently am and it seems to work completely fine. Just make sure you have the appropriate software to run all the functions. I current run CyberLink PowerDVD although it seems kind of chunky at times. Anyway, best of luck!

Is this drive compatible with Windows 10? I bought it bcs of the price but noticed later in the specs sheet that Windows 10 was not shown as a compatible OS. I just need to be sure that when I put my new PC together I can install Windows 10

Windows 10 will run any hardware or software that windows 7 runs. When you go to the LG software page you can choose the latest driver which will work on all versions of windows.

To be honest though to the best of my knowledge I have not installed the drivers since I had to do a clean boot and my drive works with no problems. Obviously you need software for the blurays to work.

Is this a size bay 3.25 or 5.25 ??

5.25 ... all optical drives are because the disk is larger than 3.5 inches

Will the product work with Windows 10?

Yes, Windows 10 should automatically identify it (otherwise you'll have to download the free driver). You should be able to read and burn just about any format from there.
However, keep in mind that you will still need additional software to run BluRay DVDs.

Is the drive Windows 10 compatible?

It's uses a standard SATA interface and all modern operating systems will have no trouble seeing and accessing it.  Windows 10 normally won't have DVD or Blu-Ray playing software installed, so you'll likely need to install VLC or commercial DVD or Blu-Ray software if you want to play DVD's or Blu-Rays.

I purchased this burner to install in my new Asus computer. I didn't realize it came without a cable.  What specific cable do I need to install it?  Thanks.

Robert, All you need is a standard sata cable on the data side to go from the mother board to the back of your new drive.  You may need a power cord from the power supply to the drive also.  You will have to check if there are any unused cables coming from the power supply.  If not you will be able to find an adapter 'Y' or otherwise.  There are a multitude of cables at Newegg that will fit your needs.

Yes, it can burn audio cd's as long as you have software that lets you burn audio cd's, like Roxio or Nero.

Question 10

Does anyone know, since this is an OEM drive, if the firmware can be updated. .. i see that LG had an updated firmware for this model # updated 2/4/2014?

This firmware software only works in windows mode with Windows
XP/VISTA/7/8. If you encounter problems in flashing the firmware or have
any questions, please contact our LG customer support line toll-free

1. If you haven't already, download the firmware file and extract the zip
   file.

2. Connect the drive to the secondary IDE channel as a master drive with
   no other devices connected to that channel (Ignore if it's an SATA drive).
   Start Windows and verify it can recognize the drive.

3. Close all other programs including: screen saver, and /or antivirus. 
   Do not open any programs or start any system functions during the 
   update as they can interfere with data transfer and damage the drive.

4. Open the firmware program.

5. Click the update button and do not touch or interfere with the drive
   while the firmware is being upgraded. IMPORTANT - DO NOT INTERFERE WITH 
   THE DRIVE DURING THIS PROCESS. If an error occurs during the upgrade 
   process, or the upgrade process is cancelled during this process, damage 
   to the drive can occur.

6. When the upgrade is complete the screen should say FIRMWARE UPDATE
   SUCCESSFUL. Re-boot your PC.
