I am buying this to replace my Audigy 2 card.  How do I connect it to the PC since it's not a card?

I bought one of these for my mother, because her sound card failed and I was 750 miles away. It has a 6-12" USB cord that plugs into the computer. Typically your computer will automatically recognize it as a sound card. It has two ports that are visible in the picture; one is for speakers or headphones, and the other is for a microphone.

Short answer; It plugs into a USB port.

will this product replace a headphone port that is not working?

WILL THIS DEVICE WORK ON A DELL POWEREDGE SC1420 OR AN IBM XSERIES 226 ? BOTH HAVE DVD (RECORD/PLAY) UNITS WITH NO OUTPUT JACKS (PORTS)!?BUT WITH PRE-INSTALLED SOFTWARE WITH MANY USB 2.0 PORTS ON THE FRONT AND BACK OF BOTH TOWERS AS NEITHER TOWER HAS EVER HAD SOUND CARDS INSTALLED!? I AM ALSO OPEN FOR ANY ALTERNATIVE DEVICES (SOUND CARDS) ETC., SHOULD THERE BE A POSSIBLE COMPATABILITY ISSUE....... THANKS!

I got them to use with a Supermicro server that had no onboard sound, and they worked great. Streamed video from Hulu, and Netflix. I have some old PCI sound blaster cards, and would have used them, but the motherboards didn't have the right kind of slots. The only times I've had problems with USB sound was when there was already a sound chip on the motherboard. If device manager shows a sound card in conflict you can disable it there.

My Audigy 2 card has 5 ports for RCA plugs.  This one has only two.  Will I be able to support audio recording, speakers, etc. with only two outlets?

This one outputs a non-Dolby stereo signal to a left and right channel via a mini-connector. There is also a mini-mike input that I have not used that I presume is in stereo. Your Audigy card seems to have outputted a Dolby 5.0 or 5.1 signal where this unit does not. I have a Dell sub & satellite system hooked up and the sound is very good. You should have no problems with a straight-forward stereo setup. Ditto for recording. You might have to unhook the speaker output if you are using an adapter for a regular 1/4" mike input because there is not much room between the two outputs on the unit. Hope this helps!

Will this unit pass audio even with a HDMI with audio cable used?
This is in a system that uses a HighDef Receiver for the monitor. Need audio outputs for external  audio amp

yes, though it might not be exactly in sync, depending on the setup. Probably wont be noticeable though.

I FORGOT TO MENTION THAT BOTH THE DELL & IBM TOWERS ARE VERY POWERFULL SERVERS WITH INTERNET CAPABILITY ETC.....AS THEY BOTH HAVE THE OS CALLED "UBONTU"(ALBEIT NOT WINDOWS)... IT IS ACTUALLY A VERY INTUITIVE/EXPANDABLE OS!! DO YOU THINK THE STARTECH USB ADAPTER WILL STILL WORK?
