I have an old Dell Latitude CPI (Intell Pentium II, Windows 2000) that I picked up used years ago. I hate to throw it out as it's in great shape and fast. I've never accessed the Internet with it--there's no port, but an space for a wireless card. Will this one work? If not, can you tell me what I can do? Thank you.

As long as you have an internet account and you had an adapter slot on your Dell laptop, I see no reason why it would not work. I've used it on two old laptops and it worked on both times.

It should work with any laptop with a PAVIA port and win X and newer. I recommend downloading the newest drivers from the manufacturer's website first, then install those drivers before installing the card.

Does this card work with any motherboard or any other components? I built a computer with components i bought from here. is there any way to see if the parts i purchased will work with this card?

I purchased this card to replace an older wireless card in my Dell Inspiron 1100. The older card wouldn't access my Netgear 14 wireless router which has the newer WPA2 encryption. The Trendnet TEW-421 card works great. I downloaded their software from their website and everything worked fine. No problems! It works fine in a laptop, not sure if it will work in a desktop. I've only installed PCI interface wireless cards in my desktops. Hope this helps.

The short answer is no. This card has a PC Card (also known as CardBus or originally PCMCIA) connector. As far as I can tell from the manual for your computer, it has a slot for an Express Card, which is a different format.

I found one on the NewEgg web site that would work in your computer, but it's out of stock, and none of the "similar" cards shown on the page are similar enough:

I looked around a bit and was surprised to find that I couldn't find alternatives. I suspect that there just weren't many made because by the time the ExpressCard interface was established, practically every laptop computer had a WiFi adapter built in so there was no need for the external adapter.

Are you sure this is what you really need? Your computer could be ordered without the internal WiFi adapter, but that would be quite unusual.

If you need a plug-in WiFi adapter, there are loads of them that connect to a USB port. I have one from Trendnet that cost less than $10 that I use when setting up a new desktop computer and don't have a wired network connection available.
