is this just a printer or is it fax and copier?

Sorry, this is just a excellent color laser printer and not a all-in-one printer.  I have not printed much color jobs but I am amazed at the color and clarity of the print.

Does this come with toner or do I need to purchase that as well?

Yes it comes with 4 toner cartridges black, yellow, cyn and magenta.
thes are lower capacity than the availble replacement cartridges.
My original cartridges are almost empty (less than 3% remaining) after a year of low volume use.

Is this a laser printer?

Sure, it has really nice photo quality print. It's a little querky with the paper tray, but I like it. It's a great buy and works fine with Linux.

Does this have an Ethernet port and is it network ready?

It does have an Ethernet Port on the back. However, I have only used USB, the phone app and NFC.  The Phone app and NFC do create a peer to peer wifi connection to make the network connection between the devices.  Hope this helps.

What size paper does this unit handle?  Looking for one that will run 11 x 17.

Will definitely NOT handle 11 x 17" paper.  I think standard letter or legal size is the biggest it can handle, and the latter will work only with the manual feed - tray is too short to handle the legal size.

Do you have the Samsung Mobil print app? That's how I got it to work, also you must use the disk that came with printer to set it all up with your wifi network.

The box and other documentation mentions Mac OS10 and OS 10.8, but no smart phones and the like.  But, there's an app called "Mobile Printing thru Samsung Mobile Print App" that will let you print from "Android, Windows, and iOS smart phones but also with iPod Touch and tablet PC."  The link to the app's description has a link to the app store.  The app store states in part:

"Compatibility: Requires iOS 5.0 or later. Compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. This app is optimized for iPhone 5."
