My only question... is why would anyone need or want this?

I'd use it for a multimedia PC that's on another floor so I could regularly shut it down instead of leaving it running 24/7.  It has no monitor or keyboard attached and only has remote access, so rebooting it from the comfort of the couch if it isn't wanting to be accessible remotely would be nice.

WOW, Wake On LAN really has turned a new leaf in modern day and age. Tell me, what does the speaker do?

It beeps during the remote syncing. Also beeps to let you know when your push the remote. I have my computer in the basement below my desk and when I press the on button I can tell from the beep that it’s turning on.

Question 3

Is this remote assignable? 2 computers, 2 different remotes to turn 1 on at a time.. or to reset 1 and leave other alone?

Not that I'm aware of. Its function is simple at its core. I used it once my power switch failed. It has pin headers for ONLY pwr/ reset. Believe the internal battery is 1028. This was used for one computer.

Yes, the device includes an integrated PC speaker on the receiver to assist in providing auditory feedback while in use.

Why in the heck would someone buy this versus buying a smart outlet and setting your bios to last state, thus turning on your computer anytime it is energized (eg alexa, turn on the computer)?

Cutting the power via a smart outlet would be a dirty shutdown.  You risk data loss.  This card initiates a proper OS shutdown.

Is there a infrared version of this?

Id like to hook up to a mediacenter pc that is mounted in a cupboard and I have an IR repeater I can hook into.

The RF signal would go through the cupboard just fine. This device is not required if you're looking for Alexa control (to wake from sleep/hibernate). You'll need to enable Wake on LAN and set up IFTTT (search Google for the instructions, NewEgg doesn't allow links)
