Without power the ringer of the base unit es lower. I follow the manual but I cant have a higher ringer. What can I do?

I think it is by design.  Just like a laptop computer screen is not as bright when you are running on battery alone.  Mine is the same, so I don't think you can do anything about it.

Does this phone have a battery backup in the base so that the digital message does not get erased when there is a power outage?

I didn't find any place to install batteries, so probably not.  Also, don't use the answering machine feature.  But thought I was getting a desktop, wall mount combo.  I'ts only good as a desktop.  Best part is the remote, however if I had just wanted a remote I cold have spent a whole lot less money.

I would like to know if this model  with 2 lines is the best quality and if the range is one block or longer. Is there another phone you would suggest for a home business that has 2 lines,Does this phone have, speaker and phone locator. ?Long lasting battery?

I am very happy with this phone. To answer your question in the order of their posting:

* I haven't actually walked out on the street, but indoors, never had any trouble with reception

* This one replaced a very old Panasonic chordless phone and I'm not disappointed one bit; I utilize it quite frequently to be on very lengthy conference calls and the battery has been stable and long lasting; I have performed any tests on it methodically though.
