Will this fit my 2011, Mac Book Pro 17", 8.3?

It will "fit" yet. As in it will fit inside the case. But I had trouble getting this to boot under MacOS. Maybe it was me, but I spent a few hours on it before giving up and getting a Crucial drive. Both said they were Mac compatible, but the Crucial booted up and runs like a champ. This Patriot, I took over to my laptop (Windows 7 on an Acer) and it works beautifully, fast, reliable - and one TB of storage! YEA!

But I never could explain why Patriot would not boot on Mac. Patriot customer support was ready and willing to RMA it for another at no cost to me. But I kept it and am still running it in my PC.

How does this work in a Macbook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012)?

This drive is actually being used as a main external working drive via connection through a Seagate thunderbolt adapter. Works great, awesome setup. If you can find an adapter for $100 you'll be in great shape.

I have a Mac Book 5.1 Is this drive compatible and will I need any installation kits?

Yes it is, I have the same laptop, and I have it installed and running just fine.
