Speed is the determining factor when it comes to class rating. A class 4 SD card is slower at reading and writing than a class 10 card. Steve G's reply above is correct. When I use my DSLR camera in movie mode I use a class 10 16GB or 32GB SDHC class 10 card. Otherwise, the class 4 card is fine for photographs. I agree that one should use trusted name-brand cards and not scrimp on off-brands to save a few dollars. I have had certain cards not work at all and become corrupt and useless. Read the reviews of other purchasers to see if there are any common problems among their complaints about a particular card. If there are a lot of complaints, then I would look elsewhere.
