will this work on an older computer i.e. is there any issue with support for usb 3.0?

USB 3.0 should be totally backwards compatible with the 2.0 and 1.0 standards, so you shouldn't have any problem with this one. I'm using this with a Mac that has USB 2.0 without any issues. (and it's so tiny!). Happy shopping, and happy holidays.

Question 2

My computer is about 5 years old, the USB controller does not state if it is a 1.0 or whatever.  Will the USB 3.0 work with older controllers?

Yes, new (USB 3.0) flash drives work fine on older machines;  my eldest predates your machine by four years.  The transfer speed is of course limited to that of your old USB ports (probably 2.0 - 1.0 would be rare)
