will a backup camera work with this unit?

I'm pretty sure that I read that in the instructions, however, my truck had an integrated rear view mirror camera setup, so I didn't have to use the head unit's feature.

I know that may not really answer your question, but I thought it was a good opportunity to give you an opinion on the unit.

To use your steering wheel controls plus some other car features, you will need to purchase a universal device such as Maestro.  And of course you need a wiring harness made for your vehicle.  With all the necessary items, the installation was actually a breeze.

The Carplay feature works as designed.  I purchased the radio for a special price of $299, so it was the absolute cheapest option I saw to get Carplay.  I have no regrets at all.

My one and ONLY complaint is that the Pioneer onscreen interface looks "dated".  I'm hoping that there is some firmware update that provides new skins or some online resources on how to add your own skins.

Is there actually an USB port in the front? I don't actually see one in the pictures. Thanks for the reply in advance.

The USB port is on the back. The unit comes with a 58" USB extension cable (w/ a male USB type-A connector on one end and a female USB type-A connector on other end). You plug the cable to the USB port on the back of the unit and pass the provided extension cable to your glove compartment so you can secure your iPod/iPhone/USB Flash Drive inside it.

Why would I buy this over the AVH-1330NEX which is $4 cheaper?

The AVH-1330NEX has HD Radio and a remote control included. The remote is optional. It is impossible to add HD Radio. The advantage of the AVH-1300NEX is that it is (currently) on sale with a $101 coupon code (find it on Dealnews). That and the Pioneer $50 rebate good until December 31, 2017, you end up paying $244 for the 1300 Vs $400 for the 1330.
