I cant be sure reading the specs but is this also capable of cd/dvd burning?

Check the model number against the Pioneer website--I can't post it here but if you put Pioneer 8X BD-ROM Model BDC-207DBK in the search box and hit search, it comes up as the first result returned beneath the pictures of the drives.

It says there:

QuickStart - Its ready 42% faster than previous generation models
Burn to DVD and CD media
Blu-ray 3D compatible

No, it does not. Cyberlink makes a media player called PowerDvd that will play blu-rays. Dvdfab also makes a very good media player which will play them as well.

How is this for burning CD/DVDs and will this play Blu-Rays out of the box on Windows Media Player?

I've burnt a few DVDs with this drive without issue.

As far as I know, this drive will NOT play blu ray movies out of the box on WMP.  Licensed blu ray player software is required for playback.

my drive is no longer reading any discs.. any suggestions?

It's a cheap drive I wouldn't be surprised if the laser went bad. I would just get a order a new one. It's not even worth you're time to troubleshoot it. It's definitely not worth paying someone else to fix it.

So best option would be just to buy another drive. Maybe this is even a hint to get something nice for yourself and splurge. Get yourself a nice bluray player.

It is a standard size DVD/CD drive, so it should fit in a mini tower case.  As for an external enclosure device, there are so many types and of various sizes you need to check the product manual or mfg website for information.

I am repairing a Pioneer Elite BDP Blu ray player (BDP-23FD). It uses a standard internal SATA Blu Ray reader (BDV-104-XA) which is long out of production. Can I use any of the Pioneer internal SATA Blu Rays if they physically fit?

I need to be able to take off the front panel to paint it white. how easy or difficult will this be with this drive?

Panel should pop off by (opening the drawer) pulling the bottom edge off the lip and lift up. (gently, it is plastic)
