The Pioneer BDR-XD05B portable drive came with software from
Cyberlink on a CD disc.

Media Suite 10 for BLu-ray
  PowerDVD 12 BD
  InstantBurn 5 STD
  LabelPrint 2.5 STD
  Power2Go 8 DE
  PhotoDirector 4 LE
  PowerDirector 10 LE

This is what came with the drive in November 2014.
PowerDVD allows you to play DVD or Blu-ray discs (movies).

There is also  Windows and OS X Mac drive utility software.

This unit is totally compatible with Windows 10 Pro.  I bought it to hook up to my laptop when on vacation, and it works flawlessly.  Just make sure to install the Cyberlink software.  It may possibly work with others, but, it came with PowerDVD, which I have used for many years.

Noob question here: this will play dvds/bds/cds, (i.e. my old games, movies), not just burn stuff, right?

Yes, it will play them but you'll need playback software on your PC.

I used this drive to install Win10 on a Acer Iconica Tablet w/ no internal optical drive. Worked fine for that. Fair warning, I haven't tried to burn data or watch bluray movies with it though.

Also, some computers have trouble (for example might read fine but be unstable writing) if you use the data side of the included USB cable w/o using a properly powered USB3 port/hub or without also connecting the added power USB connector as well.

actually it is powered by the USB cord, but you can plug that into any ac power adapter with a usb connection

how fast will it copy cd?

it depends, data fairly quickly, audio a bit slower, depending on what software package you are using, i-tunes took about ~ 12 min creating a custom playlist on a CD

I don't own the XD05 so I can't accurately answer your question. I would advise that you look at the specs on this particular unit and the XD05 and compare them to find out the differences yourself. Maybe this is the same thing as the XD05; I'm not going to consult search engines to find out since I haven't a need to do so.

I can tell you that this unit is rock solid. I like it a lot since it is rock solid. It does not fall and I can keep it connected to my server without worry. It is rock solid.

I want to be able by placing a full DVD in  burner are there connecters( S-video, components, in it so l can patch it to my DVD RECORDER and monitor as I tape via tHE Tv set. My objective is to patch a full DVD from parts of different dads. If no can you refer me to a DVD burner that can do this function? Thank you.

this is to attach to a computer and only has a usb connector, you can monitor it from your computer but no other jacks are available on this burner
