Not directly, unless your printer has its own router, which is highly unlikely.

99% of residential setups use a wireless router (a simple NewEgg search will bring it up) that is connected to a cable or DSL modem. This router is the "home base" that communicates with devices like laptops and printers. Without it, you won't be able to print from your desktop to the printer, since there is no router to manage the network traffic.

If you already have a wireless router, there shouldn't be a problem.
