Planar’s PX2611W is 26 glorious inches of widescreen real estate. This lets you have two applications open side by side and not have to shrink them to unreadability. It also lets you watch movies in full 1080p HD since it has a 1920x1200 resolution.

The DVI-D port is HDCP compliant so you can watch those HD movies with no problem. There is also a D-Sub port if your system doesn’t have a DVI port, or if you want to attach a second computer. Because desk space is at a premium these days the monitor has a four port USB hub built in.

Since it’s all about the picture Planar used a panel that was easy on the eyes with an 800:1 contrast ratio and a 500cd/m² brightness rating. They also developed the RapidVideo accelerator to deliver full motion video without stuttering or ghosting.

  • newegg 26” Widescreen LCD Panel Featuring a 1920x1200 resolution widescreen format, the Planar PX2611W’s 26” screen presents true-to-life high definition video and enhances productivity by letting you work in two or more applications side by side without toggling.
  • newegg Fast Response Time The Planar PX2611W features an ultra-fast 5ms response time for reduced image blurring and silky-smooth motion video and gaming experiences.
  • newegg Dual Inputs for Digital and Analog With DVI-D and D-Sub connectors, the Planar PX2611W supports both digital and analog VGA inputs for increased compatibility with computers and other video source devices.
  • newegg Ergonomic QuadStand The PX2611W features Planar’s ergonomic three-way adjustable stand: tilt, height (2.2") and 340° swivel for greatly increased comfort, efficiency and flexibility in use.

Still Going Strong... 8/23/2012 9:47:13 AM

Pros: Haven't found another screen that compares. (For under what I paid for it...)

Cons: When computer is off, the monitor turns on every minute or so and looks for an input, then shuts off a few seconds later. I just turn the power switch off when not in use for this reason.

Overall Review: This will be a very hard monitor to find a replacement for when it does eventually die.

Echo Nate 6/12/09 12/19/2009 6:16:41 AM

Pros: I would simply echo the review of Nate on 6/12/2009.
I have owned many monitors starting with the IBM PC 5150, Sony's, Samsung's, NEC's. This is the best. No dead pixels. No margin bleed, and excellent blacks

Cons: This monitor is bright. You need to adjust. Despite the complaints of one reviewer it is much easier to adjust than some other popular brands.

Overall Review: Newegg purchase overnight shipping turned out to be 36 hours. Not bad I guess.
19 Newegg purchases in a little over three years with only a single problem which was resolved in 48 hours. Quite a record.

Good but has serious problems 6/12/2009 10:23:28 PM

Pros: Looks nice and provides plenty of space for icons on the desktop.

Cons: Very bright monitor and if you set the brightness less than 100% for the display alone it makes coil whine - very loud and annoying. Using the video card drivers to make the display darker results in terrible color banding. Today the monitor decided to add two four inch tall stuck pixel lines on the screen.

Overall Review: This monitor will make you see white spots, whine like a mosquito if it is less than 100% brightness and unreliable. If the room is less than 70 degrees F it will not show an image until the back-light warms up. It takes several minutes in the winter or 15 seconds in the summer to see video card input signals. I will contact Planar about the stuck pixels.

Hoping it gets better 6/8/2009 8:43:56 PM

Pros: At the moment - none.

Cons: After 5 torturous days of waiting, I received the monitor today. I get it home, get my old 22" LCD out of the way, unbox this very substantial monitor, plug it in, and.... nothing. Doesn't even turn on. Tried several outlets, several power cables, still nothing. Checked planar.com and Google to see if anyone else has had problems, found nothing.

Planar advertises 24x7 phone support, but when I tried calling I was sent to voicemail. Will try calling again tomorrow, hopefully they'll be able to rectify the problem. I've read that Planar has excellent customer service - unfortunately, it looks like I'll be finding out if that's true or not.

Excellent Monitor 4/30/2009 11:35:20 PM

Pros: Very uniform. Very little backlight bleed.
Very crisp and clean display
Excellent colors
No banding
Very fast, great for gaming

Cons: It could always be cheaper.
A-TW polarizer would be nice but then nothing under $1000 has that anyway.

Overall Review: The prior review title "Not For Professionals" should be ignored. This a solid monitor that should be considered a high end pro-consumer or entry professional model. If some is a professional they should really be looking at NEC 2690 with a Spectraview.

This monitor will serve you well for gaming and for Photoshop. Planar has a good rep for build quality and standing behind their product.

Nice 1/21/2009 3:24:22 PM

Pros: Very nice monitor. After trying a TN monitor on sale and HATING it this IPS panel is beautiful. It's everything I was looking for.

Cons: No regrets other than price. I wish the panel type on these would get cheaper to make.

Overall Review: I think monitor resellers need to better educate users on the panel differences and what kind of difference to expect. The TN panel was terrible for everything except gaming.

Not For Professionals !! 1/15/2009 7:38:02 PM

Pros: - Very large workspace
- Once color corrected using tool like Spyder2Pro, colors are beautiful (until banding appears)
- Response time for gaming is overall pretty good. No obvious ghosting, but minor blurring in the more fast-paced games

Cons: - Terrible banding, especially notable in gradient scales, that makes this monitor completely useless for working professional photographers and designers
- Backlight bleed that literally leaves me seeing spots the next day

Overall Review: I have a high-end rig that I use for professional photography and design and decided to upgrade my monitor to the PX2611W for the increased work space. Unfortunately, I have discovered two major issues with this monitor that make it sub-par for working professionals: banding and backlight bleed.

Banding is terrible. If you work as a photog or designer and need to do a task as simple as create a gradient scale, you will see heavy banding. I have done everything to get rid of it to no avail. Planar's customer service had no solution and only suggested I return it to my reseller. Reseller is newegg.com, which offers zero refund for this product.

There is extensive backlight bleed in this monitor. It was very bright to begin with, and even after using Spyder2Pro to color correct and tone down brightness, I still feel half blinded by the thing.

Regardless of how Planar and Newegg advertise this monitor, it is NOT a professional level monitor. Save yourself $850!!

IPS For The Win! 9/2/2008 5:35:51 PM

Pros: IPS Panel... What more can you say.
Almost $500 less than the NEC model with the same panel.
This thing simply blows every other monitor I've tried out out of this galaxy.

Cons: You'll never be able to look at a TN or VA panel again. (Very serious here.) You'll never be able to buy a reasonably priced monitor and be happy after viewing this monitor... It's that much better.

Overall Review: As a photographer and gamer I was looking for a wide screen that would be comparable in quality to my 19" Viewsonic VP930, which has a MVA panel. I tried literally half a dozen budget screens from local stores, and returned all of them because they simply didn't live up to the color, sharpness, contrast and viewing angle of my Viewsonic. So I took a leap of faith and ordered this, knowing it would be a step up from the MVA panel in my viewsonic.

This now makes my viewsonic look like junk. So just a warning to those considering this monitor: It will forever curse you into having to spend lots of money for monitors as you'll simply hate anything with a lower price range.
