is this headset wireless so i can roam through the house and if so how many hrs of battery life?

It is not wireless. its a pretty nice sounding wired headset. the cable is about 4 or 5 feet if i remember correctly

Why won't this headset activate when plugged into the USB? Windows 8.

Something may be interfering with it, such as another plugin. I had the same problem with my headphones on a Windows 7 machine. It used to work, and now the headset isn't recognized unless I reboot the system. I haven't had the time to troubleshoot it in more depth. I guess it's a problem with USB headsets.
Wish i could give you a better answer, but that's what i found, and didn't get a better answer from Plantronics Support. Basically I'm not using my headset anymore. It works on other systems, something is just interfering with it on my computer.

Does the mic have background noise, echo or static?

No. It is a wonderful headset and if I remember right it was really cheap. I would greatly recommend this. Only downside is the volume is on the side of the headset. I wish I was inline.

I am planning to use this in my hotel room as a telephone using the hotel's wifi. Will this work for me??

some times if your plugging in a USB wifi adapter into the port next to the headset plug if you do not have a large enough power supply or what ever the case it could be an issue

I already own a Plantronics headset I use with Microsoft Lync that is USB connected.  I can't figure out how to use it with Skype. When I plugin my headphones to the standard jack I can at least listen.  Do I need another headset like the one I am thinking of buying or is there some setting I am missting to use my existing on Skype?

Go to Skype. Go to tools then options. Once in options go to audio settings. In audio settings you should have a drop down window beside microphone and speakers. Make they display your Plantronics head and/or mic.

can this be used with a desk phone?

Hi Lynn,

It will depend on the desk phone you're using since the headphones use a USB connection. I don't remember seeing a USB to 1/8" stereo jack included. 
The headphones were very comfortable though and the sound and mic were very good.

I now use a set of Sennheser PC363D that I love...but they are pricey!

you'll need to plug into the PS4 controller-set your system to “All Audio” under the "Output to Headphones" menu & you’re all set to play.

1). Does it support Cisco IP Communicator soft phone?

2). Does it support Windows 7 Enterprise?

3). Does this USB headset works on Lenovo T440s laptop?

Not sure, haven't used a cisco ip communicator soft phone. I have used it on multu PCs and laptops running various forms of windows and it has worked flawlessly. Actually bought a back up incase my first one ever goes bad. As long as the device accepts a usb headset i would assume it works. Hope this helps.
