You can use it in a regular desktop PC drive bay.
(Historically "full height" drives were massive, and what we know as standard drive bays are actually called "1/2 height")

I bought this to make double density disk copies. I am using it with both Brasero and K3b in the Latest LMDE-4. It works great.

are the back connections the same as a px-850a plextor cd/dvd burner?

No. The PX-850a was an IDE interface. This is SATA. So it's not a suitable substitute for that older model.

According to the manufacturer specs, it does support  (DVD-R DL) Layer Jump. So yes it does.
