Can this scanner be used without a computer and just store the files onto a USB drive?

I'm not sure, but I could try and get back to you in the next couple of days. I have been using driver software on my Mac and can't use the QuickScan or IntelliScan buttons on the case as they trigger Windows software functions (Apple disabled certain USB features in recent OS X versions).

Alternatively, you would probably get a better answer from PlusTek... I was very happy with my interactions with them. You do understand that your files could be up in the 150MB to 200MB++ sizes...

Is the Silver Fast Studio 8 software compatible with Imac?

I have a computer with Windows 7. It say in the manual that came with it that some features of the scanner will not work with iMac.

medium format transparencies & negs?

The product includes 2 transport trays for images, one carries 4 - 2x2 inch 35mm slides, and the other a 35mm strip of up to 6 negative images.  I have only just begun using the scanner but I am very pleased with the results so far, especially the dust-scratch removal process.  I have scanned a number of slides and a couple of negatives with good results. The comments about how little the manual offers by way of guidance are accurate. I have been using Photoshop as a post-process for final adjustments, cropping, and color correction. Generally the color produced by the scanner is close to the original (some have required no adjustment), but I am more comfortable with the adjustment layer feature in PS than the tool provided in Silverfast with the scanner.

Question 4

I would like to know if this model scans all 4 slides on the stick automatically?  The demo video by Plustek only shows positioning one slide at a time and scanning that one slide.

The slides are placed on a holder that you must manually insert into the unit and must be advanced manually through for each of the four slides after having made any editing and or correcting that is done via the included software (I was very pleased with the software capabilities).

Is it compatible with Windows 10?

I have windows 10 and it works just fine. I had a little trouble downloading the software at first but not sure if that had anything to so with windows 10. Call the help line if you do have problems they really were helpful.

What does the "RT" mean in your invoice description of the item "SCAN PLUSTEK | OF8200I AI RT" that I purchased under Order Number:76292620? The "RT" does not appear on any other descriptions that I can find.

Unfortunately, I cannot help you.  I queried other customers as to whether or not it was automatic since it has a 4 slide tray (my previous scanner also had a 4 slide tray and it scanned all 4 automatically).  I finally purchased the scanner when I did not get a response and the day after I purchased it, the response came in that it is not automatic.  Since I have over 30,000 slides to scan, I'm not interested in one at a time.  I contacted New Egg and they told me to not accept the scanner when it arrived.

So I never opened the box or saw any of the documentation on it.

How are negs processed and stored, and in what format?

During the scanning process you select what file format you want to produce.  The list includes tiff, jpeg, jpg2, and psd.  You also select whether you are scanning a slide or a negative.  Either way, it previews and scans into a positive image. This is a nice feature, being able to view negative images as they will be when reversed to positive.

Does this work with old b/w negatives?  Or does your cheaper version also work with old b/w??

I purchased this unit and it worked very well for slide pictures, It does have a pass through holder for negatives, However I havn't had a need for that yet. I would think that it should work quite well for negatives though. And they being black and white or color should not matter. Also I was very pleased with the software that came with it. I think a cheaper unit would work too, Just remember you get what you pay for.
