How loud is this card during idle, normal, and max loads?

It is a little louder than my EVGA GTX 680, so I would estimate the following in decibels:

idle: 41 db
load (72 F ambient / 78 F internal): 54 db

Not bad overall, but a bit louder than a stock GTX 680. Please note that this is with 39% fan speed under load, so if you do not have AC (or good airflow), it can be much louder.

Some people have complained about the shroud from the cooler on this, and it is a little flimsy - just don't treat it like a car part and it should be fine.

I have a 750 Watt PSU, Is it time to upgrade PSU's for this Video card?

I purchased this exact video card last Sept 2014 - I have a 600-watt PSU and it is more than enough.  It is actually rated for a minimum of 550-watts, if you want to get specific.

Will this work in an Alienware x51 R2?

This card will not fit, and the system does not have enough power to run basically any higher end card. You might be able to use a low profile lower power card.

Would I need two Mini displays to HDMI to run dual monitors? Or one mini display to DVI and use a normal DVI?

Either will work. If you run a game using the dual monitors with one on DVI and the other with a DP to DVI converter, the timing will not be identical - so you may experience odd refresh sync problems (I did with my GTX 680).

For regular desktop apps, both will work fine for static content - but I would tend to use identical connections for the best experience.

You will get better performance with this card.
The GTX 970 benchmarks higher the the R9 290 in every aspect.

Is the blower style heatsink/fan Nvidia reference design or PNY's own design? Nvidia reference blower are known to be high quality and quiet so that's why I am asking. Thanks.

I have no idea if it's nvidia's or pny's, but if you're wondering how loud it is - the answer is: not very loud at all. Hope this helps.

What are the temperatures you are seeing on idle and maxed out oater a half hour or an hour on the stalk cooler?

(Keep in mind I have two in SLI, so my temps will be a bit higher than average)
Idle: 23C
Light Use: 40C
Maxed out (running BF4 @ 5760x1080): 73C

One thing though, the fans will be a bit loud for the first few days (i'm guessing they need to be broken in or something), but now after a few weeks they are completely silent during any game.

If you set up a custom fan profile (msi afterburner), they can get down to the low-mid 60's and still be reasonably quiet.

Yes this card will work with an alienware graphic amplifier. Keep in mind that the alienware graphic amplifier only works with alienware laptops.

Will this card fit in Alienware x51 r2? I noticed the length of this card is around 9.7 inch, slightly longer than the stock gtx 760 ti 9.5. Inch. Will there be any issues fitting it in x51? Thanks

yes, this fits perfectly in the x51 r2...I have it mine and it runs like a dream.  Dont get the overclocked version unless you are going to tune it becuase these cards overclock themselves a little.  Mine, overclocks itself to 1200 mhz, while its base clock speed is 1050...so the overclocked version will draw way more power.
