Great mini keyboard
Pros: This keyboard is great. Having the touchpad attached to the keyboard is just wanted I wanted. Range is excellent as well. Keyboard can be set up via bluetooth without another attached keyboard. Attractive and super slim.
Cons: The only thing that I could think of that really isn't the fault of the keyboard but that is that it wont work in DOS or your system BIOS. This is a bluetooth limitation. While I am used to the synaptics touchpads this keyboard touchpad does most of the same things but does not have the same nice configurations as found on most laptops.
Overall Review: Remember this is a mini keyboard that I use for my HTPC so it stays on my coffee table. It is only 6" x 9" so if you are not sure how small that is, it is about 1/2 as wide as a regular keyboard. The nice thing is it has all the same keys but remember in order to make them fit the keys are smaller. Not a big deal but you are not going to want this to write novels on. Also it doesn't state if it includes a BT adaptor but it doesn't so you will need to order one as well.
HTPC makers watch out
Pros: The x-fi chipset sounds amazing! No question with that. As long as you are not trying to hook up any sort of optical connection for surround sound, you will love the card. I have 2, the first one being the reason I wanted another. Although my first is hooked up via analogue not digital. I rated the card a 4, because it does sound good, and I am sure HTPC makers are not as common of an application for this card.
Cons: If you are putting this in an HTPC, here are some things you should know: 1) Passing optical from power dvd 8 (DD 5.1) to my pioneer elite receiver via spdif optical yields 2 channels (L+R). I set up all the pass through in the various software etc and can't get anything but 2 channel from any software. 2) Creative won't understand what you are trying to do. Tech support is useless. They told me I don't know how to use my receiver, which I have had for 5 years now. I had it set in dolby digital / DTS and it has never had problems decoding before. I read every help article I could find, which all say the basic same things. I had done all this prior to seeking help. So now I am left to return the card.
Overall Review: Here is my situation with Creative: 1) support is terrible. If you have a problem that isn't easily remedied, good luck! 2) optical pass through would only pass 2 channels every time. I went from vista to XP thinking that was it, but same issue. I read reports of people having my problem and others where it worked out of the box. I am stumped. The motherboard is an Asus P5N-D. Perhaps I missed something somewhere but creative couldn't tell me where and like most companies do, place the blame on your other equipment. Maybe it is my receiver but I doubt it. There are other manufacturers that also have the x-fi which I will try.
It works
Pros: Works like a normal keyboard. Has a touchpad.
Cons: touchpad less sensitive than most laptops. finger movements track poor. no back light. HTPC users, you want this. sync button on back gets hit accidentally losing BT sync/
Overall Review: works well overall. Bought for a HTPC but wouldnt buy again since i cant see buttons at night. Get a backlit model. For any other use, it works great.
Great Drive - just need the right software
Pros: Plays HD-DVD and Blu Ray. Thats easy to figure out.
Cons: Drive performs great. A minor thing to mention though is that the blue light ont eh front of the drive is fairly bright in night time viewing. I use this in a HTPC and luckily I have a front cover. If you don't, no big deal but I thought I should mention in case this is a problem for anyone. Really not a big deal but it does flash a lot.
Overall Review: It comes with power dvd 7. This is good, but power dvd 8 ended the hd-dvd support and as of writting this there is no working hack to re-enable it. The one all over the internet was diasbled with the current version of power dvd 8. From my testing (on power dvd 8) it played blu ray great. Although if you are buying this drive hd-dvd is probably something you are after like me. Check out win dvd 9. Plays both perfectly with no problems and you won't be stuck at power dvd 7 forever. A quick note about total media theater which you see being mentioned a lot with the other two players I mentioned. That one liked to hang up a lot for me when playing hi-def content. Could just be my htpc. But check out win dvd 9 (or current release) if you like me need a stable dual format player.
