7-64 heaven

Microsoft Windows 7 Professional 64-bit 1-Pack for System Builders
Microsoft Windows 7 Professional 64-bit 1-Pack for System Builders

Pros: I have played with both the beta and the RC 7100 and this is pretty close to Heaven as far as an operating system is concerned. don't be afraid to get the OEM instead of the full version as there is no differance. If you have to reload because of a new hard drive or whatever no problem you just have to talk to aperson and tell them the reason that you need a new key. This OS loaded every peripheral such as my 8 year old Brother MVC 6800 and old games work excellently re- Arx Fatalis and Far cry as well as newer games such as Far Cry 2. I love this OS and you will too.

Cons: It wasn't free.

Overall Review: I was leary of paying for a 64 bit OEM but now that I did I am very pleased with the purchase. Like most of you I am constantly rebuilding and upgrading. for instance this computer began life as a K62 500 4.3 g asus board but since then it has evolved at least 4 times and we are just getting started. Next purchase is an 890 GX board to open up the 555 processor and possibly an ssd as a boot drive.

Most Critical Review

Maybe next time ASUS.

BIOSTAR TForce TF570SLI AM2 NVIDIA nForce 570 SLI MCP ATX AMD Motherboard
BIOSTAR TForce TF570SLI AM2 NVIDIA nForce 570 SLI MCP ATX AMD Motherboard

Pros: It works well for what I intended, a simple utility computer for home that I could do a bit of low level gaming with.

Cons: Documentation was somewhat vague, and the method of setting up the raid is weird loading to a floppy first( What floppy) who still has one? and try to load xp from a sata optical drive. But my biggest issue is this The Northbridge fan is LOUD and dying after only 7 months. the case has massive cooling and a clean operating environment so I have to rate the fan issue as Poor. Oh yeah don't bother trying to find a replacement it is an exclusive Biostar item. so you have to RMA your whole board and be without your toy for two weeks and not to mention hours of time spent dissasembling and reassembling so I give the product 3 stars. But I give Newegg a two thumbs up for their part.

Overall Review: I would still buy the product but would like to be able to speak with a real human from Biostar. preferably english.

GIGABYTE GA-M57SLI-S4 AM2 NVIDIA nForce 570 SLI MCP ATX AMD Motherboard
GIGABYTE GA-M57SLI-S4 AM2 NVIDIA nForce 570 SLI MCP ATX AMD Motherboard

Pros: The board has worked well for over 5 years now with no housekeeping. I have used everything from an 8600 video card to 8800gtxxx to 5770 ati and it doesn't care, I am on my third power supply, the voltage out in the country is pretty spikey even though I do use a couple of surge limiters ahead of it.

Cons: none that come to mind.

super

Rosewill RD550N-2DC-SL-SLV 550W ATX Form Factor 12V V2.2 / SSI standard EPS 12V SLI Ready Active PFC Active PFC Power Supply - SLI Ready
Rosewill RD550N-2DC-SL-SLV 550W ATX Form Factor 12V V2.2 / SSI standard EPS 12V SLI Ready Active PFC Active PFC Power Supply - SLI Ready

Pros: Works, quiet, tollerant of incoming ac issues we are rural and at the end of the road, this power supply has taken a terrific beating from lightning strikes and power spikes enough to fry one apc and three surge protectors.

Cons: the company discontinued this model.... too bad.

Overall Review: Am not shy concerning Rosewill power supplies now and probably will purchase another with new build this summer. This one has lasted thru two rebuilds 24-7 operation and lots of storms. not too bad for a 3+ year old power supply.

Acer 22" WSXGA+ LCD Monitor 5 ms D-Sub, DVI X223Wbd
Acer 22" WSXGA+ LCD Monitor 5 ms D-Sub, DVI X223Wbd

Pros: Like a lot of people I have been holding out till the price dropped to some magic number and 1X9.99 was it for me. This is actually the second of these monitors that I have purchased in two weeks. The first was for my wife to use on her job ( Church secretary) and it turned out to be an excellent monitor so I decided to risk buying one for myself and so far it's perfect. I have a dual boot setup with windows 7 and it is excellent there in fact it downloaded a 64 kbt update. on the other boot is XP and it is perfect as well. I do a bit of gaming and Farcry 2 looks great and Crysis was clear enough for the first time for me to kick up the AA a bit. Remember to match up your monitor to your system, Video card or onboard chip and be certain it will drive this monitor at it's native resolution.

Cons: It won't go to work for me. No seriously it is even more than I expected and I can't find a fault at all.

Overall Review: It would be nice to be able to go to Acer's web site and find this monitor listed. I did register it but that was not the easiest thing their web page layout sucks. I would definatly purchase another of these, in fact I did. Shalom Jim.

A Good Buy

BIOSTAR P4M900M4 Socket 478 VIA P4M900 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard
BIOSTAR P4M900M4 Socket 478 VIA P4M900 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: This was my first experiance with both the biostar product and with SLI. Biostar did several things properly with the board layout by locating the power connections in a logical straight line it allowed for a much neater and cooler build.

Cons: Chipset fan started to howl like a dog caught in the rain. this was amazingly loud and so at 11 months I am shipping it back for a replacement. Not before trying to get a replacement fan from the Mfr but their customer service is lacking. the first time I wrote and e-mailed I received a back plate but no fan? even though the envelope was marked TF 570 fan. after this arrived I tried to contact them again but they wouldn't answer or reply so I resorted to RMA'ing the whole board for a $1. fan. Yeah for Newegg boo for Biostar.

Overall Review: I will probably go with Asus for future builds not because I was unhappy with the product but because I was not satisfied as a customer. And I will definatly buy from Newegg.
